Guest guest
Dear ers, I have been reflecting over the Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Phase 2 Trials all afternoon. I was so excited to hear these trials will begin. You all know my history, and that I was diagnosed as a child, in the days before Internet and such a vast amount of readily accessible CMT information. So, in my reflection today, I was thinking what a GREAT time this is for young CMT persons - clearly we are on the cutting edge of therapies to slow down andd even arrest the major type of CMT - Type 1A. When I was diagnosed, I had no idea what CMT meant, and no idea on what it meant for my life. (New members, my story is in our Files titled " Funny Feet " - it was originally written for teenagers living with CMT) Then I reflected over the last 100 + year of CMT research and development, and clearly, since the 1990s, things are moving quickly. I do not expect my CMT to be cured, arrested or taken away, but I am so full of joy that so many young people may benefit from tested therapies very soon. Then I reflected over my original intention to start and how we've grown and developed, plus we've won world-wide respect among CMT Medical community and the general CMT community. Then I reflected over the (almost 1400) of you who post your questions, subjects, problems, ups, downs, challenges, and good news on a daily basis and continue to do so. Once a non-CMT friend of mine asked " isn't your job at hard and time consuming? " I answered an immediate " absolutely not " ! And you know, being the Founder and Moderator still gives me great joy - oh sure, there have been some minor headaches from time to time plus all the changes in evolution from the original Onelist. But, truthfully, I must say, YOU ALL make my work at so joyful and YOU make me want to make it better and better. Just think, up until last year, no one had thought of making a CMT postage stamp - and well, you know how that turned out. (New members, if you want to see the CMT postage stamp, or order them, take this link http://www.zazzle.com/contributors/products/gallery/browse_results.asp ?cid=238588622697374637 click on the thumbnail to enlarge the stamp. So meanwhile, my non-CMT friend said " but don't you ever feel burned out from this work " ? And again I immediately answered " absolutely not! " There is always something new, some new research, new awareness and insight, new questions and new research just around the bend. ALL of this just gives me the greatest joy and hope. These are precious treasures that I hold close in my heart. ~ Gretchen
