Guest guest
Dear Jerry: This is a common belief in traditional medicine who doesn't look at the whole picture but only a single aspects... The answer is yes and no... If you for instance were eating a junk food diet, living in downtown LA with bad smog, and smoking and using prescription drugs (or street) and have alot of dental amalgams and metals in your mouth and propreception from your malaligned teeth, which damage your detox enzyme pathways, then the answer would be yes...you're probably tipping the scale toward rusting things out (excess oxidation). However, if you've got cleaner diet, better environment, cleaner living habits, good teeth and corrected propreception, then you'll most likely have a better balanced system and less oxidative stress (higher antioxidant quotient and pathways that are functional). It's a living dyamic system and there is no one set answer as to how much oxidation (which is required for energy production) each person needs... You can't use linear thinking here in these things...and alopaths tend to do that because they are taught to think this way in school... Free radicals are necessary for life...yes, too much oxygen without enough antioxidants can increase the dna damage (lipofuscion) but you need oxygen to make antioxidants too...its actually the lack of oxygen combined with poor circulation which produces the free radicals...along with lots of junk in the environment, etc. I suggest you purchas a rather technical book called " Oxidology...the study of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and their Metabolism in Human Health and Disease " by Bradford. It's a textbook but if you're really interested in the subject, it will clear things up some. Most people now a days are actually very deficient in oxygen in their tissues...we should be breathing approx. 21% atmospheric oxygen but in most places like where I live in So.Cal it's down to around 17-18%...you combine that with poor diets lacking SOD and peroxidase, and damaged enzyme pathways from environmental contaminants and heavy metals, etc. and you have a combination for disaster... Your doctor friend is right to a degree but is only giving you part of the picture...it is a dynamic relationship and you can't tell someone that they shouldn't do oxidative therapy without first assessing their oxidative stress levels. They may have blocked pathways, they may have lack of oxygen (usually both) and they may have a crapy diet and awful workplace environments...all which produce excess free radical damage... Hope this is helpful...
