Guest guest
I do not think it is because CMT is rare that doctors are unfamiliar with it - I have a friend finishing her medical work to get a specialisation in neurology, and she first learned of CMT in her first year of med school. Although statistically common she thinks that many people do not show symptoms and therefore never get diagnosed, so doctors do not have much experience. My father in law (a senior neurosurgeon) thinks that doctors today are in love with technology and like to do lots of tests, so they overtest people (rather than for the benefit of the patient they do tests to educate themselves on the job). Physiotherapists learn about CMT too when they do their ZBT (equivalent of med school + PhD). My sister's friend said they learn about CMT but never had a chance to get practical experience with it. Again, she thought due to the fact that many people just never seek medical help. Donna from London
