I believe that workplaces are supposed/or encouraged to make " reasonable accommodations " for their employees who ask. If a wheelchair isn't " reasonable " , maybe a scooter is. If you don't need the WC all day, but just for transport, perhaps look into a 2nd hand one - lesss expensive, maybe that's more " reasonable " for your employer. It seems something agreeable can make for a good resolution.
