Okay I just got off the phone with the doctor and she said that maybe

upping the dosage on his Luvox caused him to get out of control.

Last Monday she upped it from 50 mg twice a day to 50 in am and 100

at bedtime and since he started to act up on Wednesday that this may

be what did it. Does this sound right to anyone??? I have an

appointment now tomorrow at 11:00 with the therapist and 12:00 with

another doctor in the office. I got off the phone with the lady

who's home he is at for respite and she said that on Saturday he was

very emotional and yesterday and today his moods have been on and

off. I really think I am leaning more towards bi-polar along with

the OCD. Any advice on what other questions I should ask the doc

while I am there tomorrow?

Thanks,

Carol in Arizona

Hi Carol, yes this has been our experience...a too-quick increase in dose

(Prozac and Luvox) twice caused our daughter (five or six at the time) to become

extremely activated, irritable, overreactive, prone to meltdowns and

hyper-emotional. Many of us have found that " starting low and going slow " (when

titering up on SSRI medications) can avoid these types of reactions. I hope you

have found a piece of your son's puzzle! Some of the SSRIs come in liquid (not

sure about Luvox??) which makes it easy to make very small and gradual increases

toward the therapeutic dose.

Take care,

I made a mistake in my post. I said he was on Luvox but it is actually Fluvox

that he is taking.

If memory serves, Fluvox (fluvoxamine)

is the generic name for Luvox, so it's all the same thing.

was on Luvox for about 8 months and did VERY well on it.

Carol,

With who also takes Luvox, I have found that when we had to go up with

the Luvox, he would start to get a little aggressive, angry, etc (even more than

he already was). The last time he became that way after an increase, he was old

enough to recongnize that it may be the Luvox, and I immediately lowered it a

bit.

We had to up his dose this spring due to spiking anxiety and depression, and

this time, instead of going from 75mg to 100mg 2x a day, I increased it only

12.5mg 1x in am, and not at all at night for several weeks, and then up another

12.5 in am. I didn't need to increase the pm dose at all, and this time Chris

and I both noticed - nothing - he felt better, but no aggression, rage,

whatever. So titrating up verrrrry slowly is what worked for him.

also had really huge problems with tieing shoe laces (meaniing I tied them

over and over until he had pain by the end of the school day - but if they

weren't tied that tight, he wouldn't have been able to go to school.) I had

never heard of SID back then. Same with socks - they all had " bumps " - we have

finally found Payless socks that are essentially seamless, and they aren't an

'issue' anymore

Carol,

The socks are sold at all of the Payless Shoe Stores - it is their own

" house " brand of socks - and they all are seemless - low cut, crew, tube etc.

Good luck.
