My son has something similar except it's the entire right rib cage protrudes on

his chest wall rather than just one rib. One ortho told us it was from the

scoliosis and another doctor told us it was unrelated since he does not have any

rotation of his spine. We think it has gotten worse though as his scoliosis has

gotten worse, however, Dr. Sturm thinks it might just be becoming more obvious

to us since he has grown. I still think it's related to the scoliosis though.

Sorry, I'm not much help. But, I would just have the doc take a look and maybe

get an x-ray to ease any fears about the scoliosis getting worse.

freaking out

I don't know if you guys remember or not, but Ian has this weird protrusion on

his chest. It's just a benign thing, but I was told it would more than likely

become more pronounced, so every now and again I will feel it to see what it is

like. It's definitely more pronounced for sure, but no big deal. Anyway, when I

was checking it today his ribs felt funny to me! They feel like they are

sticking out. I felt his ribs and then felt mine to see if what I was feeling

was normal and it didn't feel like mine at all. I really hope the scoliosis

isn't coming back or that it is something like pectus excavatum.

I just took a picture and I feel even worse!! I hope I am being paranoid. I am

going to try to upload it to the photos section. Can you guys look and tell me

if I am being paranoid or not?

Why do you hope it isn't pectus excavatum? has

pectus excavatum- always has. My dad does too. I

have heard it is harmless. Are you afraid the two are

related?

It freaked me out because it can get worse as they grow and the pictures I've

seen on the internet look scary. I read that it can cause lung and heart

problems as well if it gets severe enough.

Please let me know what they think. 's looks very

concave. It is in our nature (a mother's) to freak

when it comes to our kids. Try not to worry. When

Dr. first examined he just looked at the

pectus with mild interest.

Hang in there!

, Sorry I have not responded to your post before now. Life has been a

little busy, but I did want you to know that I am thinking about you and Ian.

This scoliosis thing is such a roller coaster. Just when you think life is great

something smacks you in the face. I really am praying and hoping for the best

and am anxious to hear about what you learn.

Blessings,

Just caught upon post and realized you had already had it checked out and you

felt better about things. I'm glad. You are an awesome mom for being on top of

things so quickly.
