Guest guest
Mainla: I have used homeopathy with my children and it has worked in some areas. One important note that should probably me made is that when homeopathy is being used it is not just based on the child's symptoms, but the correct homeopathic medicine given is based on the child as a whole. So while you are seeing great results with your child using these specific homeopathic remedies, they may not work on others. The child would have to be seen to know for sure what homeopathic remedy would work best for them. Specific questions are asked such as " does your child prefer warm or cold drinks, do they prefer sleeping with the covers on or off " , etc. I have no doubt that alternative medicines can work, we have used them often. I am just afraid that people who think they have kids with PANDAS OCD might go out and get some of these remedies and be discouraged if they don't work. Kudos to you for seeking out alternatives. With OCD being so difficult I think people are open to anything that might help. Guest guest
Anne, I'm glad that's worked for Sullivan! I had to smile about her compulsion being to tell YOU everything but he got more out of her. My is so " untelling " about anything & everything to do with HIM that I sometimes think it'd be great for him to have the " have to tell mom everything " OCD. I know, I know, I'd be sorry if THAT came true!! His twin (non-OCD but I wonder about ADHD...) is a nonstop talker who can't be quiet for a full 60 secs! Well, definitely not 2 whole minutes anyway! Let us know how things go on! > I don't know if any of you are interested in trying this approach, but I must say things have improved so much that I really want to share. > Sullivan ( 8 year old girl )had such a difficult spring and I had so much resistance to traditional meds (no judgement, and God Bless anything that helps) Anyway, we took her to a homeopathic MD in Los Angeles and he spent more than 3 hours talking to her. I thought I knew everything since one of her compulsions is to Tell ME Everything but he really got alot of new information out of her. > He felt it was PANDAS but not necessarily strep, since early on (age 4) I had her tested several times when she had such a severe and overnight onset. All her tests were negative. > He prescribed some immune building meds, ProBoost ( a thymic Protein A , distrubuted by Scientific Bio-logics) and Colostrum (liquid concentrate 30 ml) both available at homeopathic stores as well as online. After 3 weeks of that and watching her symptoms decrease dramatically, he gave her a " antidote " , and I am not sure what it was (I can find out) as well as some tincture she takes when she is feeling OCD. > Who knows if this is what worked, because her symptoms pop in and out of our lives, but it was such a dramatic improvement. She still has symptoms but no major breakdowns and it has helped her so much with her CBT. > Anyway, we are grateful for our sweet girl to feel " light " again without the heaviness of all her worries. > Love > Anne in Santa Barbara
Guest guest
Hi Sonya, I do believe in alternative medicine. Actually if I need to take any medications for any reason,I go to a homeopathic to be treated with herbal remedies. That's what I did actually before three weeks when I had infection out of a bad flue & I was fine in a couple of days. In the case of OCD I'm so afraid to take my son for alternative of chemical medicine. I can't give him herbal med with the medicines he is taking. In the same time I can't have the risk of stopping the medicine he is taking to give him herbal once. It might not work for him & we might go back to zero with his condition as he is much much better now from before. Everybody in this list What do you think about that? As you mentioned that one medicine might work for one person & won't work for another, it depends on the whole situation of that person. Did anybody tried alternative medicine for their OCDes children, if yes what is the come out of their experience with that, thanks. Guest guest
Hey Huda: I know what you are saying. It seems much riskier when we are using alternative medicine on our children. I had one doctor give mea remedy called snake viper. Now would I have given that to my kids, absolutely not!!!! I took Josh in one time to a doctor here for an adjustment. He put his hands on Joshs' head and was just sitting there with his eyes closed, concentrating. I am like " what are you doing " and he said " feeding him energy " I said " stop, I am not comfortable with that " . One thing that was interesting though was that this was before we knew that some of the things was doing was OCD and she was just there while Josh was getting treated. He looked at her and said " what's wrong with her " . I said " nothing " . He said " yes there is. You can look at her eyes and tell that something is wrong " . There could be a chance that he could help her, but after that " feeding him energy " thing, I am not confortable with using him. He may be great, but it's out of my circle of comfort. Guest guest
Hello Sonya, I too have wondered greatly if any natural herbal remedies would work as well and be safer for my 9 yr old son's OCD, Tourettes, and ADHD. But it has taken us years to get a med cocktail that noticeably helps. He is doing better--still symptoms, but there is more peace all the way around so I am afraid to rock the boat. Yet, I wonder how long can we keep him on all these meds? He is on Risperdal, Concerta (which yes it makes him tic more, but slows that troublesome impulsiveness to a tolerating level) Clonadine and 150 mg Luvox. He was on Prozac for quite some time. We saw some improvement with Prozac until the pharmacy made him take the generic form. His behavior deteriated so bad, didn't do any work in school at all, and could not get along with the other kids, in trouble a lot-his OCD sky rocketed. We believe that change alone thru him off. We put him back on the name brand, but he never did get back to where he was. So we went with a new one for him the Luvox which seems to have gotten him back to a workable level.(More good days than bad) I give him lots of vitamins with his meds. He takes a multivitamin, vitamins B, E and Fish Oil. I don't figure that should mix badly with his meds. Maybe I will try the herbal route when he " outgrows " or he seems to be getting immune to this group of meds and problems start to arise and a change is needed. I guess, as usual, I will just wait and see if it " feels " right to start experimenting with the many herbal combos. I hope you find the best treatment for yours! God Bless--Cheryl Sonya Haywood wrote: Hey Huda: I know what you are saying. It seems much riskier when we are using alternative medicine on our children. There are no interactions. Sonya H __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Cheryl: She first started on Paxil, which only gave her slight improvement. Then she was put on Luvox which she became manic on. Then they put her on Zoloft, but had to start her at very low levels because she hypometabolizes medication. --- cletus oerther wrote: > > Sonya, has your daughter had any side affects with > the Zoloft? has she been on any other SSRI's? > Sonya Haywood wrote: > Cheryl: > > My daughter's doctor has her taking OmegaBrite > (fatty > oil, you have to order it over the internet) and > antioxidant with her Zoloft.
