Guest guest
I'm lucky my local feed store carries organic whole barley at an affordable price and it is local. I dont use much at all really. They get the equivilent of maybe 1# dry barley total per day but when you soak and sprout it it has much more volume - they get one scoop - it is a pint scoop - of the soaked barley at each milking. I have found that it is most palatable day 2 or 3 - any longer and they dont like it much - Once the sprouts have lots of root on them they dont eat it well at all. I soak 24 hours in a big bucket and then pour it into stainless colanders to rinse until I feed it out. The way my milkroom is set up I do best with 2 day sprouting so I dont have too many containers to deal with though I prefer to feed it at 3 days give or take. My goal is to forgo the barley entirely and feed mangels on the stand but havent gotten it together to grow them enough for the year KWIM? My girls stay healthy grain or not but some dont like to come in if they dont have a goodie on the stand:o) HTH aliza > > Aliza, > > I'm interested in your sprouted whole barley... I've only sprouted something a couple of times, so I'm a serious newbie at this. How do you sprout yours? It sounds like volumes you must be sprouting. How much do you feed each goat? > > Thanks! > Dona >
