It really is amazing that some teachers still just don't understand

neurological differences and say just the wrong thing! My daughter is in her

senior year. She has some making up to do, in part because the school

refused her the accommodations she needed earlier on. Their solution was to

give her double work- the work she was behind on plus the new work. Just

what my daughter didn't need! So of course, she is still behind. Our

consultant has just written a medical excuse note and she will be required to

finish the minimum requirements for her courses. They have finally accepted

that the last term of her senior year! She had a medical explanation years

ago and they did not budge on it! She is planning to graduate and go to the

prom but my guess is that she'll need to finish this summer.

Part of the problem is my daughter in that she does not manage her time

well. Knowing that she is on the line about graduation, she opted to go to

Russia and be in a school play- which is very time consuming- when she has

all these credits to make up. I don't know how this will play out. Right

now she is in Russia with her musical fellow students and we are off to

Disneyworld to spend some quality time with my younger daughter.

Talk to you next week!

Regards,

Mamimiz

Mamimiz, I can sympathize on the school issue and the not

understanding neurological issues. I've been venting the past 4 days

in another group about 's school, well one of the teachers. I

called the school's central office last Friday and am waiting to hear

back. 's OCD and dysgraphia both affect him at school, but as

I've said before there is still something " else " with . I'd

about decided to check into a neuropsychologist to try to get it

pinned down (diagnosis) but decided to go the school route first for

some comprehensive testing for learning disabilities. The guidance

counselor said if I wanted certain accommodations I had to have a

diagnosis to go with " that " accommodation. Poor , all my kids

hate it when I start something with the schools!

Glad you at least FINALLY got something accomplished regarding your

daughter! Since 's now in 7th, perhaps I'll have it done by

his junior year!!!
