, it might depend on whether your times in the bike runs got better

after the layoff. If you were stronger than during the 5 day a week routine,

you might want to examine and experiment with longer rest periods.

I am over 50 and know that now I take days off for active rest and

recuperation, where before I used to train days on end and then collapse.

Also you might want to use intervals for 1-2 of the 90 minute training

sessions to reduce the time factor. Also examine your nutrition ,

pre-exercise and post exercise, as that can be a major factor in recovery at

any age. The book 'Sports Supplements' by and Stout, has all the

latest data on recovery and supplements, as well as the archive. It has

chapters on -Nutritional Considerations for Preventing Overtraining;

Recovery; Endurance Performance; Hydration; and Anticatabolics with all the

references. It is a great training aid.

As someone stated, " Youth is wasted on the young " !!

Good Training!!
