Guest guest
I just lost my entire hotel and brews due to black mold got in a part of my basement n killed every do on one!!!! I am waiting until we get everything cut out before I try to start over, lucky for me I had just gave away 2 lovely n big scobys to a friend so hopefully some of their children will be able to come home!! Good luck with yours! > I was wondering what anybody thinks about living in an apt that is prone to mold, and is rather cool, year round.Does anybody think this could be in part part of the reason for slow fermentation? I have given away a few scobys, and much to my dismay, the scobys adapted well and produced good KT in a reasonable amount of time.I don't get it! Any input and advice is invited. Thanks, > >
Guest guest
Hi , If the mold is in your walls, as in that you see it on your window sills, that's a tough one to eliminate completely. But I would say that if you can see it and treat it, spray it with peroxide and let it sit on there to kill it. Just keep re-spraying it until the peroxide has killed it. As for your cold apartment, my house is cold in the winter so my first attempt at a brew was completely unsuccessful. I believe spring is finally hear now, so I do not have to deal with a cold house for 6 months or so. But when that time comes around again, I plan on either using jars of hot water inside of a cooler, if I get a cooler; or I will use a cardboard box that I have with a loose lid, line the box with a towel for insulation, cut a hole in the center of the top and put the end of an extension cord through and plug in two night lights, suspending them from the hole in the box lid. I will secure it at the height I want it with tape. A scoby will not like the light, so I will also cover the jug with another dark towel. If money is not an issue for you, try this link: http://store.kombuchakamp.com/products/The-Kombucha-Mamma-Essential-Heating-Stri\ p-.html I was also given ideas like reptile mats or seedling mats that growers use to keep their seedlings warm. ________________________________ I just lost my entire hotel and brews due to black mold got in a part of my basement n killed every do on one!!!!
