Hello Dennis,

The forms of CMT that attack the very young often abridge their lives but this

is a rare occurrence. For most of us, there is no direct fatal consequence of

the onset of CMT symptoms which come on slowly. The solution that has served me

well over the years is to carefully observe your capabilities and do not overdo

them.

A careful adherence to total care of the body will help to minimize the effects.

Weight control, controlled exercise, avoiding alcohol/smoking, and stretching,

good diet, and avoidance of infections help a great deal. It is after all an

additional draw on our time each day, but that is the penalty we pay to optimize

our lives. I spend two hours each day serving the cause and it has resulted in

many compliments as to my appearance and abilities at the age of 70 years.

My life has included three open heart surgeries and major abdominal surgery

which has also required much accommodation, but I'm still here and quite active

doing the things that make life worthwhile.

EdM from NH

P.S. - I know it is easier to do all caps, but internet etiquette says it is

" shouting " and offensive. Perhaps it is more pardonable to use all lower case?
