Why I Don't Use or Recommend Plastic For Brewing or Storing Kombucha

Hi EveryOne,

In 1994, when I was making Kombucha tea to sell in my local health food stores I

contacted many bottle manufacturers about options for bottling Kombucha. Not one

would guarantee that chemicals from the plastic would not leach into the

Kombucha. The only exception was special plastic bottles used for acids in

laboratories but those bottles are very expensive, more than glass, and not

readily available.

Given that there are known issues with many plastics, endocrine disruptors, etc.

it would seem worth it to find a glass fermentation container and bottles to

store your KT. The one exception might be if you were going to travel with KT

and wanted a container that would not break for the journey,

Of course each person will decide whatever they choose. For me, I will stay with

glass even though it is more trouble and more expensive initially. After all,

you are going to make many batches of KT using the same fermentation container

over and over again for years so when you consider that, it really doesn't cost

so much after all.

Peace, Love and Harmony,

Bev
