Im on celexa right now and I have been watching both boards very closely. Its interesting to see the similarities in comments. Most people seem to find that celexa doesnt work as well for depression as lexapro does and most people dont think lexapro works as well for anxiety as celexa. Both groups complain of the jaw clenching teeth grinding thing though. Suz

Guest guest
There's no harm in starting with 5mg. In fact I think my first week would have been much easier if I had started w/ 5 instead of 10mg. But after a week I was through the initial side effects. At 10mg my depression has mostly lifted, but it's not helping the anxiety yet. I think my doctor will probably up my dosage next time. Good luck. Thank you everyone for all your replies. Actually, though, Ingrids was the one I was looking for!! I wanted to see that there was someone out there who could get a benefit from a smaller dose. But it looks like us medicinal lightweights are in the minority. My doc calls me "exquisitely sensitive" to drugs. I dont care what I am though. I just want to feel better. I want to feel like me again. Suz
Guest guest
Hi Suz, I am on week nine of Lexpro at a very low dose almost 2.5 mgs at present. My depression was relieved w/in several weeks betw. 1- 2 mgs. I am very sensitive to meds as well, if I had to start out above 1 mg I would have quit b/c I experience it so strongly- some of the negative side effects. I am on it as a way to taper off Ativan which was the cause of alot of depression and anxiety for me. I put my taper on hold while I adjusted to Lex and just last week, I think, I started tapering again as I am feeling some relief from anxiety. I experience less anxiety as I take a little more- I am hoping I won't have to take more than 5 mgs. Due to the short half life of Ativan, I experience interdose anxiety symptoms. Guest guest
I was on Lexapro and it worked fine for me. I also used to take Zoloft, but stopped years ago. The next time I needed an antidepressant, they recommended Cymbalta. It is very similar to Lexapro but is also used to help with nerve pain. Although I do not experience nerve pain, they thought might as well put me on that in case I should ever experience pains. You may want to ask your doctor about this. It is newer than Lexapro. Either way, both worked well. The hardest thing was getting off of Cymbalta. No matter how long I tried to wean, I still kept having the dizzy spells when I moved my head. Guest guest
Some people have different reactions to Lexapro.Fluoxatine is Prozac isn't it ? I know when I took it, when it first came out, I didn't like the way I felt on it. I felt foggy and brain dead, and it didn't do all that much for the depression. But I have never taken the Prozac/Lex combination, just the Prozac by its self. Now I'm on lexapro, have been taking it for maybe six weeks or more. I know they are two different meds, but it seems I'm more easily agitated now. I think I was nicer on paxil, but am now easier to anger on the lexapro. Has anyone else had this happen? I take lex for anxiety. _______________________________________________ No banners. Guest guest
Irritabilty can be a symptom of anxiety or depression that's not being controlled well, in your case. It can be extreme in people that aren't being treated at all. After 6 weeks on Lex, depending on the dose and if you were weaned off the Paxil properly before switching to Lex, you should not be having symptoms of anxiety. Talk to your doctor about this. You may need to have second drug added or a different drug altogether. Barbara question about lexapro I was on paxil for about three years. Then it seemed to stop working.
