Guest guest
Hi, everyone. I joined this group because I'll be marrying a woman in February who has CMT, and I've been told by her and our pre-marital counselors that it seems like I need to better understand this disorder and the effect it has on people so that I can be a better support system for her. My fiance is 25 years old, and has had to stop working due to the chronic pain and fatigue she suffers as a result of her CMT. She's in the process of applying for disability benefits, and I'm really hoping she gets them to relieve some of the financial burdens. She misses work, and I find myself inclined to encourage her to go back to work when she talks about missing it, but that seems to be the wrong response. What I really hope to gain from this group is how to still LIVE life to the fullest with CMT and the pain that comes with it, rather than letting it rule your life. So much is put onto my plate because of her disorder, and I drop the ball pretty often because of it. She gets frustrated with me, and I feel like I deserve to be cut some slack. I really am trying. So I guess another thing I hope to gain from this group is how married couples have learned to react to disproportionate workloads. I'll probably be a little naive and ignorant at first, so I hope you bear with me, because I honestly do want to be a better partner to her than I've been so far. Looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning as much as I can about CMT too. Rob
