SSI overpayments

I can tell you that we are in the situation you describe. My daughter is her own guardian (although we have power of attorney over medical issues). She does work, but also receives SSI. We get a letter from them about every 2 weeks saying they have overpaid and they want their money back...once they claimed she owed them $4000! (That was almost every cent of what they had paid her since she started receiving SSI). Then, out of nowhere, they will cut her payments from several hundred to only $30 for the month with zero explanation. We have had to actually go down to the SSI office AND take an advocate from Advocacy Inc. to try to straighten out the mess they have created. We have kept every single shred of information and letter they have sent, and there appears to be no rhyme or reason to any of it. And, if you are working, if you make $1.00 over their allowable limit, then they cut your SSI completely and you get nothing (they don't just deduct $1.00 from your check for retribution). Just $1.00 over makes you lose hundreds of dollars! Makes perfect sense to me (NOT!)

My daughter and I both are praying for the day when she works full time and she can tell them to take their SSI and put it where the sun doesn't shine. It is far more trouble than it is a benefit, IMHO.
