Guest guest
It was once explained to me like this: CMT muscles have to work TWICE as hard to do HALF the work. Just read that one line over and over, it is a good simple explanation and that's going to make fatigue greater. That's why it is a good idea to break up activities, chores, shopping, house cleaning, and everything up into manageable pieces, just do a little at a time, rest/have breaks in between, and for me, the single best thing I can do to stop fatigue from happening in the first place is to make da** sure I get a solid 8-9 hours of sleep at night. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
And from a non-medical understanding of the actual bodily processes causing the fatigue... My understanding is that, since the nerve signal to the muscle is impaired, the muscle is not moved in the most efficient manner and it is also getting a delayed response (probably depends on the type of CMT though). Also, as we lose muscle mass due to atrophy caused by inefficient use of the muscle, our body compensates by using other muscle groups, poor gait, and other means, to be able to function. No wonder we are so fatigued

That is a good simple way to explain it to others. I probably do need to get more sleep at night. I am currently getting 6-7 hours and I do so much better on 8-9. I don't have too much choice about pacing myself at this point in my life. I'm a stay at home, homeschooling mom of 5. I love it and would have it no other way but it does stay busy arould here. I am trying to prioritize more so I can pace myself somewhat.
