My problem is I did what everyone suggested -- withhold food, try to force some foods, etc. It only made it worse. SOS has the theory that there are 30 steps to eating from tolerating smells, sights, sounds, touches, textures, and swallowing being the highest and last step. With Allie Kat we're having to start with her knowing it can be on her plate without feeling forced or pressure from us. So really she's retraining ME. > > Debi > That sounds exactly like how I've been teaching kids how to eat for the last 6 years, lol. I should have marketed it. It takes a long time, but is SO much more effective, not to mention ethical. I've never heard of a kid suddenly start eating food that was shoved in their mouth. I have seen lots of kids decide to try something on their own, after building up a tolerance for the smell, sight, feel, etc. Plus, a lot of the time...they KEEP eating it! Any time I hear of " therapists " forcing food on someone, it makes me want to try it out on THEM. Amnesty
