Guest guest
Dish soap and vinegar is the very first thing I tried this spring and it did nothing. It just evaporated out with no bugs in it. Even my tried and true baiting method that I used all my life in PA would not work in this new house in WV I live in now. Not even BEFORE kt brewing. And I only moved 2.5 hours away. There must be different strains of bugs in the different areas of the nation/world, is all I can come up with. For instance, this area has stink bugs and I had never seen them before moving here three years ago. A friend who moved here from TX said there are different stink bugs down there and they smell equally as bad. I described stink bugs to another friend in TN and for these three years, she had never seen one--until last week she called me because she had seen something that looked just like a stink bug in her car, only this one was 10 times bigger! I sure hope those don't come up here! She pulled over in some parking lot where she asked a man to get it out of her car for her. I think my problem is I've got too many jugs of KT brewing. They have too many places they can go besides the few little bait traps of vinegar I have set. I will probably end up quitting brewing eventually because of my fruit fly issue in the warm months and the brew time problems in the winter. It keeps me hopping all year long. No fun. And I don't see KT doing anything for my health at all. I had lots better luck when I drank alkalized water for a year. I knew that was helping me in the first two weeks. >I don't like to see them around my jars of KT, even though I am pretty sure they >can't get in. A method that works for me is one that someone mentioned here a while >back. In case you missed it, put a drop or two of mild-scented liquid soap or dish >detergent in a small glass and fill it about half way with kombucha tea or kombucha >vinegar. Don't cover it. Place this near your brewing jar. When the fruit flies fly >onto the KT in the glass, the soap affects the surface tension and they drown.
