Re: Claravale Dairy vs Organic Pastures

Well, funny you should ask! I moved from the Bay Area to San Diego County

nearly 9 months ago and am going through Claravale withdrawal because there are

no distributors who come this far south. Only OPDC is available here right now.

There are many reasons why I like it so much better--the taste, the Jersey

factor, and the glass bottles. But my major bone of contention is that OPDC has

a history of outsourcing their milk (to make cream and cheese, is the official

story) and this caused the listeria outbreak in 2007 (or was it 2008? memory is

fuzzy) and subsequent legislation. They say they no longer do it and have never

outsourced fluid milk, but conflicting information from them has eroded my

trust.

So, I recently started SDRawDairy to address the dearth of Claravale in our

county. If you are located in this part of the state, please consider joining!

If you are in the Bay Area, you can find Claravale through this co-op/company:

If you are in LA, I guess your best bet is stores, but I've never lived there so

don't know if there are co-ops. I do know from buying it sometimes there that

the prices can be outrageous, and the milk is not always fresh. Contact me

offline for the name of a distributor if you want to find out about co-ops

(we've been trying to get him to come on down to SD but so far to no avail--we

don't have enough cases of demand yet).

Good luck,

Barrie

Pastures? I'm new to drinking raw milk and have tried Organic Pastures and

really enjoyed it. However, I hear that Jersey cow milk is the healthiest for

you and all of Claravale's milk comes from jersey cows. Any thoughts? Thanks.
