I am the worlds biggest klutz on those things ) Mine has this little safety catch thingie that's attached to a cord and you're supposed to wear it clipped to your clothes. If you roll too far away from the console or fall off, the treadmill automatically stops to nobody gets injured. So far I only triggered it once when I let myself get too far back on the belt so I could take longer steps.
Guest guest
My dad's treadmill has a "deadmans switch". It has a cord that clips to the front of his pants or shirt. If he slides too far back then it unplugs and the tread stops. That is one thing I wish I had on mine. I am getting better at walking at an even pace. My kids love the treadmill as much as I do. Guest guest
You know I didn't think of the floor moving under me. I think the floor is moving even when its not. I have never used a treadmill before. Maybe I need a manual one?

Walmart has a cheap one for $180.00 but the belt is only 13 inches wide. It seems to narrow. I wanted to put it on really slow and try to get in some exercise. I will let you know if I can walk on a treadmill and chew gum at the same time. Heck forget the gum! I will just let you know if I can walk. Guest guest
Hi , I seldom post but I read everything. When I went to PT one time after a car accident, I did exercise on a treadmill. It didn't have the long sidearms or a system that you hook onto your clothing so that if you fall the darn thing shuts off. I was walking and all of a sudden my legs just " gave out " and I fell. I still have the scar from the burn that I got on my knee. So I would say if you are looking for one in your home you should look for an automatic shut off system and " arms " on the side that you can hold on to. Some of them fold up and fit under a bed or in the closet others do not. They are expensive also. There is a website where you can buy used ones unfortunately I don't remember the address.Hope this gives some ideas/though to a treadmill. Have a great day. Guest guest
Personally, I'd stay away from a treadmill altogether, . Is there another way for you to get in shape? I would think that even a stationary bike would be better for CMTers than a treadmill?

Guest guest
, I agree with . I use a stationary bike, a rowing machine, and the swimming pool--all at my athletic club. With my recent foot surgery, the stationary bike is terrific since it allows me to gradually increase the amount of weight I push with my newly constructed foot. So what you use depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Tom Re: Treadmill > Personally, I'd stay away from a treadmill altogether, . Is there > another way for you to get in shape? Guest guest
, Have you c0nsidered an elyptical machine? There are not motorized parts involved. You basically go at whatever speed you want and you are able to adjust the resistance to make it easier or more difficult. They are also alot easier on the joints than running on a treadmill. You may want to stop at Sears or a sporting goods store where you would be able to try one out. Mike Re: Treadmill Personally, I'd stay away from a treadmill altogether, . Guest guest
I have my treadmill set up so that I can watch TV while walking. One of the things I do to challenge myself is that during the commercials I bump up the speed or the incline -- past what I think I can do comfortably -- and try to keep the speed bumped up during the entire commercial. Sometimes I have forgotten to slow the speed down once the commercial is done! Guest guest
I wish that I had a treadmill in my apartment. Don't see any way of getting one any time soon though. There isn't a TV in the exercise room. That would be a good idea though to bump up the speed during commercials. Don't know where I would even put a treadmill even if I had the money to buy one. We (my hubby and I) live in a one bedroom apartment. 340/296.3/275 Re: TreadmillI have my treadmill set up so that I can watch TV while walking. Guest guest
, Good going! It was me who walked at 2 miles per hour. It's great that you could speed it up! I started out at about 1.8 and worked up to 2.0 and right now thats as fast as I want to go. I wanted to stay at 2.0 but work toward going maybe 1 1/2 miles but then the treadmill died. We all go different speeds so just whatever works best for you as long as you are exercising its a postive thing. Its so nice to follow your progress. Don't give up, you are doing so well! ~:~The Personal Touch~:~Tags, Stats, or anything else personalized with your name.Everything here is personalized!http://free.hostdepartment.com/t/thepersonaltouchMy Personal Web Site Treadmill Hi there friends, Well, I worked out on the treadmill today. Before I was walking at 1.5 miles per hour. Then I heard some one in here (sorry I can't remember who it was) say that they walked at 2 miles per hour. So I thought I would try that today. I walked at 1.5 for five minutes and then for the next 20 minutes I walked at 2.0 and then for the last five minutes I walked at 1.5. Thought that way I could warm up a little and cool down a little. I didn't think I could walk at 2, but I was able to. One doesn't know what one can do unless one tries it first huh? I was so proud of myself for being able to walk at 2. Thanks to who ever it was that mentioned that they walk at 2. Gave me the incentive to walk a little faster. After I walked at 2 for awhile, that 1.5 for the last five minutes seemed really slow. Oh also when I was in the exercise room they have a really big mirror that covers a whole wall. Well, I was watching myself on the treadmill in that mirror and looked down at my pants and they look really loose. I couldn't believe it. I think they used to be tight on me. That was a good feeling to see them looking kind of loose. 340/296.3/
Guest guest
I don't know of anyone else that uses the exercise room. When we (my hubby and I) go, we are always the only ones in there. This is a low in-come apartment complex so I don't know if the management would spring for a TV in there just for the few of us that uses it. Guest guest
, that's fantastic! I'm very excited for you. Every once in a while, just try to bump up the speed a bit and you'll be surprised how quickly your body will adjust...especially if you do it on a regular basis. I'm just so happy for you! You sound like you're about to bubble over, so you've gotta be feeling great. And congrats, too, on your pants being too big--yay! Keep it up! -Bonnie
