Guest guest
I have seen some of the previous replies and see that you have gotten some good advice so far. I would also encourage you to try setting up the page yourself. There are several free tutorials online on using HTML. Just go to www.google.com and search under the words " tutorial " and " HTML " . If you have a full time connection to the internet you might consider hosting the site yourself. I am doing this now. All you need is a PC and software that is available free on the internet by download. Here are some of my personal preferences: Operating system: Linux (Slackware) http://www.slackware.org Web Server software: Apache http://www.apache.org (You want the httpd server) Additional stuff: Php http://www.php.net Sablotron http://www.gingerall.cz A few months ago I decided to try to set up a web page and serve it myself on my own PC. I used the software above and read the documentation. Most of it is arranged in a step by step process. For my requirements, I wanted to see if I could set up a site that would be " dynamic " in content. That is, the page would change according to the input of the user. I also wanted to set up a database with records stored in the form of XML. (see www.w3c.org). I had no prior experience doing this but in the course of several months and doing it part time I managed to achieve what I wanted to do. Here is the result (it is not complete but more a " test site " . http://213.84.71.105/ One additional thing to do if you choose to host your own site is to register a domain ie) www.myplace.com You can do that easily via several places. One is http://www.dotster.com [Mel Siff: Another very reasonable place to go is: http://www.godaddy.com ] My recommendation is to " go for it " . If it gets beyond you than bring in additional help. At least you will learn a lot in the process. Good luck, ---------- houserules_2000 wrote: > This is a little off topic but it does relate to my career as a > personal trainer so I felt my questions were pertinent to the lists > conversational scheme.
