As far as I understood the programme, the boy had bout's of illness, then had

his appendix removed. He kept on having stomach pain and and vomiting after

this, however, and they became suspicious of his mother, as he seemed to recover

when she was not present, and then relapsed, when she was there. They kept

finding blood in his urine, which they could not explain. The defence lawyer

said this might have been due to a catheter being introduced, but the programme

did not say whether this was the case. A couple of the nurses also saw an

unexplained crystal substance in his ng tube, after his feeding pump alarm had

gone off.

He was in and out of 2 hospital's, and eventually they were working on a PANDAS

diagnosis, but then the boy kept having other unexplained symptoms. As they

were suspicious of the mother having something to do with the boy's unexplained

symptoms, they said they were going to transfer the boy to a psychiatric ward,

where the mother would not have such close access. Before the boy could be

moved, he passed away, and very high levels of salt were found in his body. The

Dr also said that the PANDAS was just part of the boy's problems, so I am unsure

if he had PANDAS AND his mother was involved in something sinister. He improved

enough to go home after treatment for PANDAS, but his mam phoned again to say he

was worse, and he was re-admitted, where he passed away, and the excessive

sodium was discovered.

I found it startling when they mentioned PANDAS as this was in 2001. I wish she

had said 'tics as well, like you say, more parents watching might have got it.

is on. PANDAS is mentioned by GOSH as a possible cause of the boy's symptoms. I

thought PANDAS was not officially recognised by the NHS?
