Wow...what a lesson. From what I've been able to gather from everyone here...is

that we are/were all type A personalities. I'm sure that helped contribute to

our being the 'lucky' ones to get this disease. Maybe it was the only way to

get us to slow down.

Elly and all,

I have had  months (since Oct.'06)  off from work since I was knocked on my

butt (diagnosed) and I always

silently wondered, are we 'having a mini nervous breakdown??'  We all say how

busy we were, type A. Always doing, doing doing, running, have to do this,

deadlines, get this done life, always something!! Why didnt we take time to

relax!!

Diane....42

You never had time before! So

I have to thank Stills for that, just think if I continued my type A

personality I would have missed so much.

Just thought I'd share with my friends.

love Elly

.. I think I have mentioned this in some form before, but I have to agree

with Elly 100%! I never sat still...ever. If there was enough money to be

made it was not uncommon for me to work until 10:00 pm (14 hr day), 12:00

AM....with my record being 104 hours in less than 6 full days!

Having kids didn't slow me down too much, and if they did it wasn't for

long. I remember seeing a " gut " starting to show about 6 months after our

first son was born, so I went & joined the YMCA (They had programs for him

such as swimming & pre-school) and (prior to their " radical " " modernization

improvements " (meant to be sarcastic!) a full blown free weight gym and

racquetball courts. I got back into lifting and broke my personal goal of

bench pressing over 400 pounds in a shade over 3 years. I went from a dude

with a moderate build to where I had to buy all new clothes....for a good

reason!

Now I have all of the time in the world for my kids. It is there for the

wife too, but she shits all over me more times than not...which I suspect is

due to my health and the tightening of the belt (so to speak) that she can't

seem to stand. Now I coach football (which has turned into the highlight of

my year these days), take the kids running (keep them in shape for football

in the off-season), take them fishing (that shouldn't count as I used to

fish over 150 days per year, so this is a natural to me) and what ever else

they want to do. I also am very involved in their school work and pretty

much everything they do.

I know I would never have neglected my kids intentionally, but I sure

wouldn't be as involved as I am now had my health stayed to the good. In a

way that's one thing I try to focus on, as everything else around me makes

me want to eat a large caliber bullet! My business isn't healthy anymore, my

vehicles are all past their primes and now I have to decide whether to sink

more money into them or spend what I surely don't have. I rarely do much for

myself anymore, and that includes fishing as I got sick of the BASS club I

was in as we allowed a bunch of " TFI " 's in who changed it from a gentlemans'

club to a major money contest, which even if I could afford is not why I

liked to fish competitively in the first place. I haven't even registered my

boat yet....and my truck is going to cost me at least 1200.00 to keep it on

the road for a while longer..and that is my cost.....triple that for the

average consumer! I can't seem to be able to find any side work these days

(Thanks to the US Gov't playing party to the mega-rich!) and the amount of

meds I'm on alone is depressing....yet I'm still totally exhausted 75% of

the time!

Oh well, I went off on a rant again........Have a good one, Kirk.

PS.....read my signature at the end of everyone of my emails....I can think

of no " more true " statement in the world! Adios.

Dear Ely

Like you. I was to busy running the whole show.I worked as a seamstress

untill my 2 kids came, then went back to wrok cleaning houses cause It allowed

for me to be there for the kids before & after shool. When I got sick I had 6

houses # times a week I did back to back Then went home & BAGAN with supper

inmediatly because I HAD to have it on the " table " , when they all came home.

Also I had my father in law living wt. us for 8 yrs. so I had s kids & 2 men

that were good in the mecanical aspect of life but didn't do any thing inside

the house because I did it all & problably wouldn't have like the way they

folded stuff any way.

Well now .... I can't even clean my OWN home, cook the quickest possible way

WHEN I can cook, & before " I got " it that, this IS how IAM gonna be from now

on, I did have a nervous brake down.

I've ha a lot of time to think about what real priorities are, & I'm such a

much better person. Like you said I now take time to enjoy very simple things

that before couldn't have taken the LUXURY to have done.

I accually sit out side with my coffe ANY possible chance I get with my

husband. I call a frind & try to do the same whether is only time for coffe

(for

them) or have a whole lunch, & on a rare occacion even en entire meal on the

deck just for the cheer delight to be in good company.I make time to listen!

I discoverd I love watching & photographing birds, & so I have a hobby. I'm

certain ther's NO way I'd ve. If I hadn't gotten sick, didn't possible have

the time!.

So I began that " I miss myoldself " because I was thinking about how much I

miss being desease-free ABLE body, that was & FELT capable.Fortunaly when

Still' s striked us It did also do somthing better for us (for those that's

been forced) It gave us the chance to stop & slow down enought to latch on to

the simple things that would be what would help us carry on in spite of our

bodies. I do like myself better as I'm more compationate towards those i any

pain, even emocional.... I lost some friens, but l figured I didn't need

that kind of poeple around me if they didn't apreciate what they had, & I have

better (real) friends now &

learn about what I don't want NOR put up with.

Sure we miss our old selfs only our old BODIES & we'd taken back in a second

if give the chance....

BUT we've learn so many good things & improved as human beings that most

able bodies may never in their entire lives on this planet get a chance nor

care

to improve on.

It is just TOO too bad that we just can't have BOTH. Or maybe for some we

will. For now, however temporary it may be we are the MOST gratefull poeple &

continue to have the pleasure to know.

Thanks for letting me vent !!
