Guest guest
I must say Dr. Small's approach is very different from that used by Dan's therapist. We not only talk about OCD at home (and did in therapy while it was ongoing), but he had to do OCD assignments every day (ERP stuff). I don't really get why he would want to avoid directly addressing the OCD. Let us know how it works anyway. Judy re: bathrooms/Jean 's elementary school seems to have pretty clean bathrooms w/o graffiti, so I really think the issue with doesn't have to do with that so much. Thanks for the info. about Dr. Rappoport. Right now, seems to have a rapport with Dr. Arnold Small, in Reston, VA, who has experience working with OCD kids, but doesn't use the cognitive therapy with . He seems to have success with by just telling him he has to do some things he doesn't have to do, etc. Perhaps this is because is still so young (7 y.o.) and his symptoms aren't as strong as those of some kids who've had OCD longer (?). Dr. Small addresses each symptom as it arises and downplays the association to OCD. I think it may be because 's self-esteem was so low when I brought to him. I just asked is Dr. Small ever talks about OCD with him, and he said " no. " I asked, " Does he ever talk about trying to stop doing things that are hard to stop? " " No. " I told there is a group of kids who have OCD and some of them don't like using the bathroom at school. I asked if he'd like to read what they have to say sometime and he said, 'Maybe. It depends on what they say. " With this in mind, perhaps it'd be a good idea for me to go ahead & sign up for that group? Do I sign up under my name or 's name? is very unlikely to sign-on, read the messages, and respond. I would most likely have to pass on any relevant remarks to . Dr. Small does agree with me that has OCD (more compulsions than obsessions), tactile defensiveness, and anxiety. He told me that already knows this so that's why we don't have to discuss it that much at home. Anyway, those are some questions I have - also, I wanted to respond to the man in DC who is looking for someone familar with OCD. -Jean ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
