Guest guest
tell them to wash their equipment better, to much bad bacteria gross milk I just got an order from uddermilk.com (like I always do...) The milk smells and tastes fine when you open it, then after 1 day it smells and tastes a bit " off " I ended up throwing away 6 gallons!!! I was wondering if maybe I should have put a 1/2 tsp of baking soda in it to preserve it as soon as I opened it (I always used to do this with store bought milk, would extend the use by date by about a week or so)

Guest guest
I agree that there is a bacteria problem with the milk. There are two possible sources, a lack of cleaning as noted by one posting and the other is mastitis. Either way good quality raw milk should have a shelf life of a couple of weeks. I know from personal experience of drinking raw milk from my father's farm many years ago that I could get a gallon of raw milk from the bulk tank and simply keep it refrigerated and have the flavor still be good two weeks later. Raw milk from a herd with mastitis problems will not provide a long shelf life.
