Guest guest
Hi everyone. As I have shared, our ASD daughter gave birth premature infant 22 days ago. I am curious of those of you who are adults with communication difficulties and those of you who have adult children with difficulty expressing have you ever needed to have someone else speak for you? I am listed as our daughters SSI payee representative because she cannot handle money. I am listed as her MRDD representative because she is not able to find the words she wants to say at meetings. We had so much trouble during her emergency delivery for the sake of the HIPA laws. She was very stressed and communicating was extremely difficult but the doctors kept insisting that because we were not her legal guardians, we could not speak for her. We are having similar problems in the Neo-ICU. We and Katy are becoming very frustrated and I need to know if we have her put in writing that she would like me to represent her wishes verbally if that would suffice? I do not wish to have her declared incompetent when she is perfectly capable of making decisions for herself and the baby. but they are trying to convince me that I have no other option. Any advise would be helpful. ~~~Jeanne You can spend your life however you wish but you only get to spend it once.
