Daycare problem

I noticed concerns about a child with autism having problems accessing a

daycare.

This same problem looms for severely affected adults with autism too. The DADs

requirements for HCS require a day program, so many individuals with autism are

placed in adult daycares that are set up by DADS. These placements are

ineffective for them because the programs are designed for choice and

socialization, which many people with autism can't do.

Well, the more severe are turned away from these programs and there is no other

choice but to keep them home 24/7. This is a real issue.

I know many of you are thinking about children's issues now, but the adult

options in Texas aren't much better now.

And, yesterday I talked with a HCS provider caring for a Lells documented person

(Lells was a lawsuit that got many out of institutions who weren't supposed to

be there) who is at wits end because the adult she is caring for (NOT with

autism) is too severe with medical issues to access a daycare. So it is not

just adults with autism but the older disabled in general who are not being

served right.
