Tried desperately to get my boy into a language unit where I live. Like you say,

no way was he getting in cause of his 'autism'. Friend told me recently top

speech therapist deemed her child was not suitable for ANY speech therapy

because he had autism -

where do you begin with this kind of ignorance? I am quite sure that if i had my

child diagnosed by someone who knew anything about communication difficulties

that he would be given dx of verbal dyspraxia or verbal agnosia. My boy doesnt

even meet the criteria for dsmIV anymore nor do hundreds/thousands of other

children.

the dsm is currently going to be changed for the FIFTH time - when are they

going to realise they didnt get it right and still arent getting it right.

implications if children do not have the right therapy early on in childhood. A

new service specific to their needs would, therefore, be in their best

interests, as well as highly cost-effective for the NHS and local authorities.

professionals and the wider public the opportunity to have their say about

proposals for future services.
