Thurs - Kathy

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Kathy 's Peak Fat Burning (I think that is the title). It is currently on a compilation DVD called Fat Burning Pilates - it has this step/weight routine plus Pilates for Abs and Pilates for Lower Body.

Anyway - the Peak FatBurning routine has 2 step routines and interspersed between the 2 step routines is upper body weight training. I skipped the weight training and just did the cardio routines on this DVD. Each cardio routine is designed as a "wave" where you start out at a moderate intensity and gradually bring it up until you are at high intensity, then you cool down and recover. The moves are mostly athletic and easy to follow - particuarly the high intensity options which are mostly just lunges (and lots of them) off the step. This one is filmed outdoors in a garden, which is nice. Kathy gets shrill at times, but it isn't too bad! One of the background exercisers does not use a step and does the whole routine on the floor which is a great option for someone who doesn't feel like doing step or doesn't have a step handy. There is also an ab routine in this workout (which I skipped since I was going

to do Pilates) and a short athletic stretch (which I did do, but the stretches needed to be held longer).

Following the cardio I did Kathy's Pilates for Abs. This one has a chapter for a warm-up (6 min) and the routine (20 min). Since I was short on time I just did the routine (20 min) and skipped the warm-up. The warm-up is nice b/c it sort of mentally focuses you for the Pilates routine, so I wish I had time to do it! Anyway, there is nothing new in this one, your standard Pilates moves, although Kathy does not follow the classical Pilates sequence. She does cue well, though and she is calm in this workout. She has a background exerciser with her who shows more advanced options. This one is a nice one to have - I wouldn't go out and get it separately, but it is a nice addition to this compilation DVD!

Now I'm sort of missing my Project You cardio and Pilates/Yoga workouts. I kept the weight workouts from Project You and traded the cardio and Pilates/Yoga. Maybe I'll see if I can work a deal to trade for those. It is funny how we change, at the time, I traded these b/c they were "easy" but now I like "easy" workouts that I can modify up. I'm so over the relentless high impact and "hard for the sake of hard" routines. I don't mine hard routines if they serve a purpose - for instance run/walk intervals, etc. At the time I traded my Kathy's I was doing a lot of Cathe! :)

Tomorrow is circuit - thinking I may try the new Austin bootcamp which has been sitting in my virgin pile for too long.

Take care!Donna

I like Kathy 's workouts most of the time and am glad I've kept hers.  I've had trader's remorse many times, ug, don't like that feeling!   On the other hand, it feels good to get rid of workouts you feel you'll never use again, too.

On my long weekends I've been backing up some of my vhs to dvd via a converter from the vhs to the laptop, then using a free SoThink software to convert mp4 file to .iso (dvd) format then making dvd's of them.  Some of these workouts have been long discontinued or will never make it to dvd.  So far I've done Body Bar workouts and Ballaero but I'd like to convert Project You as well, since I got that set as a gift on vhs.  I like the cardio workouts - the 3 are a perfect natural progression and I do get my heart rate up on the 2nd and 3rd on.  I often use the first cardio one from that series with new exercisers. I'm not crazy about her yoga or pilates one from that series, but I agree the strength ones are very, very good!

Kathy, while at times dipping and hyperventilating, is also warm and comforting to me somehow.  She's like the soccer mom next door or something.

I feel the same way about Kathy! :) I think tomorrow I may work out w/ Austin, who has a similar effect on me.

I think trader's remorse is why I hang on to so much in my collection! :)Donna
