OOPs!!

I hit send before I made that a personal reply to .

Satish, I don’t know you but by the response of others on this

group, I think “we†are in the majority about how to raise goats and you are

alone on this one.  Sorry for the “nut job†remark to the group.  I apologize.

I need to slow down on my group replies (which I rarely reply to

Dam Raising kids is a good thing and I was disagreeing with Satish (who sounds

like a total nut job).

Sorry if that came across wrong. I

was addressing you with that statement to tell you what I do, just as I was

addressing Satish to tell him that he is inhumane.

Please reread my statement.

Satish,

There are people who raise goats for

milk and still can be human to the animals.

,

I have dam raised my goat kids and not

one has ever suckled her own milk. The kids are healthier and happier and

I still get plenty of milk after the kids are weaned between 8 – 12 weeks of

age. And I totally disagree that goats should be rebred a month

after lactation. Goats need time for their bodies to heal and they

systems to strengthen before they are pregnant again (just like people and

other manals). EVERY book on raising goats and every “good†goat

breeder will tell you that.

I do not claim to be an expert but I

can recognize someone that is more concerned with making a profit than the

ethical treatment of their animals.

And Satish, if you want to lower your

blood pressure and eliminate salt from your diet than you should eat nothing

from a grocery store isle. If it comes in a box or has a UPC code

than you should not eat it – this comment is in regard to your post on the

thread “HR 2749-can still be defeated…â€.

Hi

You seem to be very proud of your brands of goats. It seems to me that you

are not into goat business to make money from your goat. You are in it to

show how beautiful your goats are. As I see it I do not care if a goat looks

ugly as long as it produces milk. After all if it were not to produce milk

what good it would do.

I see people letting the goat kids suck their mother's milk. It should not be

done. The kids should be weaned right at birth and fed by bottle. As a matter

of fact they can be taught to drink through the bucket.

Whether you let the kids suckle their mother's teats it would make no

difference to the goat. It would give you no certificate saying how good is

my owner. She lets my kid suckle my teats.

The kids who grrow up suckle the teats of their mother may grow up to drink

their own milk. There is a video of a cow on tV that suckles her own teats

and its owners think they have a special cow. They show her every where.

I've stated elsewhere that the goats should be milked at least three times

every day and may be four times a day.

I've read members say my goat is dry now. How did the goat get dry? It should

have been bred about a month after it lactated so that it would be ready to

lactate again. The goats that are not bred in this fashion may loose their

ability to get pregnant.

you can become a very big goat farmer who may develop your farm into a

1000 goat farm if you follow my directions. You'd then need a freestall barn

for your goats.

Greetings Satish,

I am sitting here wondering if you work for Monsanto, the FDA, or some Land Grant University or whether you thought up all your "Wealth Through Higher Production" on your own. There are LOTS of people out there who think as you do, but probably you are one of the few who found this list. What you are telling the goat people to do is exactly the path the cow dairies have been forced to follow for years...higher and higher production. So what has happened to them?

They didn't get rich. Most of them are broke.

They produce an inferior product...lower butter fat, lower CLA, higher Somatic Cell count etc

The average life of a dairy cow in a commercial herd is around 43 months.

They have nearly destroyed the genetic base of several good breeds. Holsteins have been bred for production at all cost (and even milked three times a day). It is very difficult to go out and find the classic old time Guernsey or Ayreshire which were known for their high quality (A2) milk and their striking beauty because their breeders had to turn them into "wanna be" Holsteins in order to try to compete in the race for high production. Many good dual purpose breeds have gone by the wayside because they didn't have a chance in the production race.

I once heard it said that you could tell when a man left his youth and hit middle age because that was when he stopped seeing how FAST his car would go and started to see how FAR it would go. I want longevity from my cows, not maximum production.

It utterly amazes me when I hear on RFD tv about sending teams of agricultural "experts" representing Monsanto, Tyson, ADM,etc to Iraq (the very cradle of civilization) to teach these people how to become "better" farmers through increased production when it is these folks who have perfected "sustainable" agriculture before we were even a country. Also the citizens of Iraq which you see in the news reels are neither fat nor skinny. We should be bringing their farmers here to teach us how to farm in a healthy sustainable fashion. (sorry for getting OT)

Re: OT - Question about goats

I hope I can change the way people think about the Goats. They are worried about what to feed. They are not worried about using goats to become rich. I mean it seems people are happy with the goats they have. Some body has, may be four goats, may be five goats and is worried about the feed. They are worried about breeding the goats and showing them at shows. I believe, unless they have the goats, as pets, they should be worried about maximizing the milk they get from the goats. Further if the people do not take all the milk the goat produces the milk will rot inside the udder and the udder will get diseased. To eliminate the disease they make the life of the goat miiserable by dipping in liquids that contain hooney and iodine. I was born in India although now I'm a U.S. Citizen and live in USA. In old days the doctors use to dress your wounds with Iodine. Oh boy it hurts. They do not do it any more. The teats of goats get cracked. Iodine will really hurt. Then honey will bring flies and make the lives of the goats miserable. Almost everybody milks the goats twice. That leaves 75% of the milk in the udder. There is a reason for it. If you want to know the reason visit this grouphttp://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/milkgoatsAnyway you need to milk the goats at least three times a day and may be four times a day. The way to find out how many times you need to milk is milk the goat three times a day for a week. Compare with twice a day milking. If you get more milk by thrice milking then you are under milking. You need to milk the goats four times. You may even need to milk five times a day.More milk will increase your profit and enable you to buy more goats. As a matter of fact if you increase your profitabilty banks will lend you the money to buy more goats.I'm assuming that you are in milk business and you want to increase your profits by being competitive and selling your milk at prices cheaper than those of others. I saw a poll of a site where the goat owners are selling goat milk at $10 to $20 per gallon. How many people can afford to buy milk at $20 per gallon. If the goat owners get every ounce of milk the goat produces they should be able to reduce goat milk prices to $5/gallon and reduce the incidence of udder diseases like Mastitis. Mastititis is a killer. If one goat in the udder gets affected by Mastitis every goat in the udder will get it.If you are in business to make money there is only one way. It is from milk business rather than showing the goats at shows.Than all the goat owners go to the shows and listen to the lectures given by companies that want to sell their products. Their information is so biased. They do not give free information like I've given. I hope I've given something for goat owners to think about.Satish Bhardwaj> > > > Corn, Oats, Barley, sometimes dry, and sometimes with molasses > > on it. > > > Deb Ferrell > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >>

It really works nice AND it enables you to be able to get away if needed because they still have their babies with them and don't need milked. We do this with our cows too.

need to start doing that..Instead of waiting 3-4 months before

I start milking..LJPS

raise your animals the way you want. The cool thing is we all can raise what we want without answering to someones opinion. If I do not like your method I do not have to buy from you. Jim Subject: Re: OT - Question about goatsTo: RawDairy Date: Wednesday, August 19, 2009, 9:03 AM

Satish, This has got to be the most idiotic thing I have ever read!! Milking 3-4 times a day?? Dam-raised kids turn into self nursing adults? LOL You have got to be kidding. And breeding 1 month After they have kidded. Might as well just slaughter the poor thing now! I feel sorry for any animal in your care! Your an Idiot! Satish and give all other goat farmers a bad name!

I milk once a day and dam raise Never had any of these problems. If they are drying up its usually time to dry up, something is wrong with the feed or they arent mass producers.

, You do have some Very nice goats, well bred and well taken care of. I dont have them personally but I have seen some that some one bought from you!

raise your animals the way you want.

If people want to unsubscribe because more knowledgeable members point out that a person is handing out untrue goat information that is sad. I totally agree that it is best we can all raise our animals as we see fit but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be able to point out when a person says things like, "letting kids nurse will make a doe a self sucker". From what I can see Satish joined here to phish for members for their own list not for learning. It is true though that a goat that is emptied of milk more than twice a day will milk harder but that also makes a higher level of work to be done so?????

I think the point was that the disagreements were worded rather rudely. You can politely disagree. There is no need for name-calling, which happened.
