Guest guest
Hi Theresa, Haley just turned 10 March 2nd. How old is ? Where is Manatee Co.? We are in Palm Beach County. That would be so great if we were close... I would love for haley to have a friend and someone who is going through what i am(who can relate). I know that sounds awful but it's nice knowing we are not the only ones. Take care Ronda > > > > > > > > > > For 3 yrs. now, there is nowhere in Palm Beach County for my > > daughter! > > > > > Last summer the ARC was > > > > > able to get funding for a 2wk behavior program, which was a great > > > > success! > > > > > My > > > > > daughter attended the program and it was wonderful... she was safe > > > > and lots > > > > > of > > > > > fun and experiences. ex: riding horse, swimming etc. I wish i could > > find > > > > > aftercare and camps for my daughter so she can learn and grow and > > > > get over > > > > > her > > > > > fears and also so i can start working again. Guest guest
Hi Karmen, We are from Yardley Pa. right next to NJ. and close to Philadelphia. We moved to Palm Beach County about 15yrs ago and love it... I dont think I could handle the cold winters up north again. I spoke to the lady who runs the camps for the ARC today and she said she is 99% positive that they will have funding for summer camp. It's only 2 weeks, I wish it was longer but I will take what there is. Did you find a camp for your daughter? Talk to you later Ronda > > > > > > > > For 3 yrs. now, there is nowhere in Palm Beach County for my daughter! > > > > Last summer the ARC was > > > > able to get funding for a 2wk behavior program, which was a great > > > success! > > > > My > > > > daughter attended the program and it was wonderful... she was safe > > > and lots > > > > of > > > > fun and experiences. ex: riding horse, swimming etc. I wish i could find > > > > aftercare and camps for my daughter so she can learn and grow and > > > get over > > > > her > > > > fears and also so i can start working again. Guest guest
Hi Ronda, So glad to hear that you are going to get the 2 week camp funding again. At least that's something. Are there no extended school year programs available for special needs children in your area? My daughter has always gone to an ESY program in the summer. Its in her IEP that there is a risk of regression without it. The ESY programs have been cut in weeks, so I was looking for a day camp that would accept her. I found a camp, but the funds have not come in yet from DDD to pay for the camp. I am hoping that the camp will hold her spot until the funds come in. We'll have to see. Yardley is close to me. I like a temperate climate (cold winters, warm summers). I enjoy my colder months from November through January. After that I'm ready for warmer weather again. I lived in Houston, Texas for 5 years. Can't imagine spending another Christmas in a warm climate. But, everyone has their own desires, and its totally understandable. Take care and again 'YAY' that you will get the 2 weeks. Guest guest
Hi Theresa, That is great... she is still young. My mom lives in St. Pete and we stay with her when we have our Dr. appt. We see a DAN dr. in Tampa. We have been with Dr. for 3yrs now. We havent really seen any wow improvments although we are now doing HOBC therapy and we see a little improvment in Haley. We see her being able to sit(at night, after dinner) and keeping herself occupied, watching tv and playing with her books and stickers. I feel the HOBC is the only thing that had any effect on her... I wish we did this years ago, I belive that she would have improved alot more if she was younger. The older you are i think it takes alot longer. Palm Beach County is on the east coast, we live in West Palm Beach north of Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. Guest guest
Hi Karmen, Thanks... me too. I have to be happy with that, sure hope they get the funding! They said it's looking good about 99%. Haley's IEP also suggests she attends summer school, so that will be nice. Altough to me her school seem more like a daycare, they don't do much acidemics, it seems more social and behavior which is great. I wish the behavior would carry home with her. Anyway i work with her as far as speach and trying to get her to say her words, I noticed she is not saying as much and I just do what she wants. So now i am working with her on using her words... it takes alot of patience. I sure hope they hold your spot for your daughter. Did you talk to them and let them know she will be attending and to please hold a spot for your daughter... that your waiting till you get the funding. ? I hope they will do that for you! Is your daughter going to summer school too? My sister lives in NJ (Hamilton) she will be moving in April to Hope Hogen, not sure if I'm saying that right. She says the same thing as you... she likes the climate changes too. We cant get her to move to FL. Good luck and let me know if they hold your spot. Guest guest
Hi Ronda, I did let the camp secretary know that the check from DDD would be sent directly to them and that I HOPED they would hold a spot for her. She thanked me for keeping her posted on what was going on with DDD and also sent a statement for a $500. deposit to HOLD a spot. I haven't done anything about that. I'm hoping that they receive the check from DDD soon and that they tell me what the balance is at that time as well as let me know that I got the 2 weeks I requested. My daughter does attend summer school. I actually don't mind that summer is geared more towards social and therapy, less academic. My daughter has difficulty with socializing, and during the school year I have found that she doesn't get enough socialization time at school. Being that she is an only child, I feel it is crucial that she receive that 'social time'. so during summer I like that she gets lots of activity and group therapies. They do work on academics also, but I find that I do a better job with that than the teacher does. I am a teacher assistant at a special needs school, so I bring home worksheets for her to practice with whenever we have some quality downtime. This seems to help her more than anything else. I'll keep you posted on the camp funding. Let me know how things are progressing with your daughter on that end. Take care, Karmen Re: Summer Camp/aftercare > > > Hi Karmen, > > We are from Yardley Pa. right next to NJ. and close to Philadelphia. We moved to Palm Beach County about 15yrs ago and love it...
