Guest guest
Hello, my name is Wardeh Harmon. My first name is pronounced Wardee. I live with my husband and three children in Oakland, OR on 5-1/2 acres. We raise a small herd of Nubian goats for milk. We also raise ducks. We are very interested in Jersey cows, too, but haven't gotten any of those yet! We use our goat milk for milk, cheese, and kefir, and there's never enough! We purchase raw Jersey cream locally when it is available, which also makes us raw milk consumers, too. We get that just for ice cream. Or butter! The email address I used to sign up for the group is suchtreasures@....Raw dairy is legal in Oregon, either in retail stores or from a farm. Here's a quote form the realmilk.com website about Oregon's laws: " Raw goat or sheep milk sales are legal on the farm and in retail stores. No permit is necessary for farmers with no more than nine producing goats and nine producing sheep who sell the milk on the farm directly to the consumer. Raw cow milk sales are illegal except for on-farm sales where the farmer has no more than three producing cows on the premises. The state prohibits advertising for on-farm sales. Farmers producing raw goat or sheep milk can sell in retail stores if they obtain a producer-distributor license and have their own bottling plant on site. Licensees can sell goat or sheep milk products such as butter, cream, yogurt, and cheese as well. There is one licensed goat milk farmer in the state at the present time. " I keep a food blog, GNOWFGLINS: http://gnowfglins.com/which stands for: Embracing " God's Natural, Organic, Whole Foods, Grown Locally, In Season " I joined this group about two weeks ago, and my apologies for not introducing myself sooner! I have enjoyed reading through many introductions, getting links to good things to read, and listening in on the latest goat and cow discussions. --Wardeh ('Wardee') Harmon
