Oh my gosh Sheri. I am so mad I can hardly type. I am so sick of things being twisted in the media. Didn't someone say that what they are doing is illegal? How about if we e-mail the attorney general and the american board of plastic surgeons? Anita must read!! re: Tampa Radio station Hi Girls - Well - the Tampa station stat you have been speaking of lately about the "breast Christmas Ever", WFLZ 93.3 contest is talking about us. This morning they were on for about an hour bashing all of the emails they received as well as the one from the National Assoc for Women. They are so very clueless. The DJ himself said that he only received 2 emails complaining which I know is crap. They made fun of the "NOW" complaint sent saying that they have been doing this contest for 10 years so why are we complaining now? They gave the local people a chance to call in and all of the calls were pro contest of course. I got through and talked w/ the producer but they were not allowed to put me through on air as I guess they were only screening calls for the people that were thinking the contests were good. It was pretty ruthless what they were saying about the people that were complaining and they never began to address WHY we were complaining. They made it sound like we were upset as they were making a mockery of women by offering these contests which couldn't be farther from the truth. They mentioned nothing about the millions of us getting sick and becoming disabled as a result of implants - nothing about the pain and multiple surgeries - nothing about the torn families as a result of lack of income due to disabilities and multiple medical bills. They really pissed me off - sorry for the language, but they took our complaints and totally made them something that they were not. All they did was make fun of us saying that we needed to "find something else to complain about" and that the women's organizations must not have anything better to do. They also made fun of the fact that nobody complained about the contest last summer - "boobapoolza" where they gave away boob jobs to high school seniors - 17-18 years only. It's so sad that this little radio station is doing something like this when we have other 'bigger' issues in our world going on -- all the devastation from the tsunami -- certainly puts things in perspective -- doesn't it?!?!?

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I addressed this contest issue on a

radio station WLW New radio 700 in Cincinatti at a little after 1:00pm

Eastern time on Christmas Eve with a DJ named Sterling

(http://www.700wlw.com). He wasn't the most caring, but at least I

got the issue out. And YES, these contests violate the code of ethics

of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons...and others (we talked

about this as well). Oh, and I think Dr. Zuckerman got to address the

ethics issue on Fox news as well.

Kacey

Here's what the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has to say about

this...

http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/13354.html

Subject: Re: radio promotion/ASPS ethical code

Participation in a charity raffle, fund raiser or contest in which

the prize is any surgical procedure

Ethics and Plastic Surgery - ASAPS Position

Article in the New York Times - January 3, 2000

NEW YORK, NY (July 20, 2000) - Many doctors engage in advertising and

public relations, but when do such activities cross the line that

separates ethical from unethical? A recent article in The New York Times

( " Doctors Who Love Publicity, " July 2, 2000) brought to light what many

" insiders " in cosmetic surgery already knew - that some doctors trade

professional services for media coverage, offering journalists everything

from complimentary laser hair removal to free surgical procedures. " This

type of unprofessional behavior is an embarrassment to members of the

American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, " says the organization's

president, C. Morello, MD, of White Plains, NY, " and it is in

direct violation of the professional Code of Ethics that we have pledged

to maintain. "

The problem is that not all doctors - particularly in the competitive

field of cosmetic surgery -- hold to the same high standards. In fact,

only a relative handful of plastic surgeons - fewer than 1500 - have

qualified for election into the elite membership of the American Society

for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), which requires not only

certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) but also

substantial cosmetic surgical experience. Application for membership in

ASAPS also requires surgeons to subject their advertising and marketing

activities to close scrutiny by their peers, who look for evidence of any

ethical breaches.

" ASAPS members are expressly prohibited from giving anything of value

to a representative of the media in anticipation of, or in return for,

professional publicity, " said Dr. Morello in a Letter to the Editor that

was published in The New York Times (July 9, 2000).

Some of the other unethical practices identified and prohibited by

ASAPS include:

Participation in a charity raffle, fund raiser or contest in which the

prize is any surgical procedure

For surgeons who already are ASAPS members, the penalty for failing

to follow these and other specific guidelines can be loss of membership

status.

" The members of ASAPS would like to see more states adopt this type

of regulation, " says Dr. Morello. " This is one way to help protect the

public from being misled about a doctor's qualifications to perform

plastic surgery. "

The 2200-member American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

(ASAPS) is the only plastic surgery organization devoted entirely to the

advancement of cosmetic surgery. ASAPS is recognized throughout the

world as the authoritative source for cosmetic surgery education.

U.S. members are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Canadian members are certified in plastic surgery by the Royal College

of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

what is really sad here is that after the segment his morning, the DJ was bragging about how he received so many calls and not one was a negative one - this is a bunch of crap as I had called and they wouldn't let me through. I wonder hope many other sick women tried also? All they were pushing is that the Women's groups were slamming them for the contest saying that it made women look bad as if they needed boobs to make them pretty. Nothing was said about the hundreds of us that are sick, maimed, and worse as a result of these nasty devices. Not to mention the poor children that have been affected - this guy has a baby on the way and one a few weeks younger than my Logan - I wonder how he would feel if his children were sick or hurt? I'll bet he would change his tune in a heartbeat.

I said when I called that it more an issue of young women trying to win this contest and not having a clue what they are getting into. I mentioned that young women see this as an unachievable goal so they don't have a clue of what may be the consequences and then they win it in a contest nonetheless and never have to look into it. At least the women today that have to save for years for such a procedure have the info available to them like we offer if they take the time they are saving to look into it. The people that win it just do it - no effort at all is involved in knowing what they are getting into

I wish I had all this info and support available when I saved for two years to get me implants. All I had to go on was my doctors sick demented advice. I would never be here if that were the case - of course I wouldn't have met all you wonderful women but I would have rather met you in a different setting!!

fyi - this same dr. that operated on my cousins boobs when she doesn't have a spleen due to a previous car accident and doesn't tend to heal well. Botched job as she is short and petite w/ huge boobs, probably a DD and she had months of recovering and infection as a result. Real nice guy, huh? I can't imagine why they should be allowed to operate on someone who has slow healing issues due to ruptured spleen anyways.

$$$$$$$ I guess.this was also the doctor in charge of their summer boob give-a-way to highschool seniors 17-18 year olds only last summer.

Hi Shari,

How upsetting this is to many of us! It really hurts when other

people don't take the time or have the sensitivity to understand the

nature of the pain and suffering we have experienced. We aren't

talking about something simple like a toothache here! I wish they

could see that!...these illnesses can be life-threatening and it

amazes me that so many people just want to giggle their way through

the whole issue and treat us like we are just annoyances that need

to be brushed aside while they go blindly dancing along.

I know that many of these stations have to do things for the sake of

marketing and making money. But they should have at least some

decency and respect for those who are in pain. Hmmm, maybe a little

too much to ask for some people these days??? The Bible says that

in the last days " men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money,

boasters, proud, blasphemous, disobedient to parents, unthankful,

unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control,

brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of

pleasure rather than lovers of God. " (2 Tim 3: 2-4)

We sure are seeing alot of that in our American culture, and many of

these morning shows have DJ's that want to see how far they can go

with their shock value. It is all about pushing things farther and

farther from good, moral values.

I hope to be able to respond to your suggestion by writing to these

people soon. In the meantime, I've looked up the email addresses

and want to post them for you all.

mjk

HooverMJShow@...

Thanks so much for the information, Shari. I just want you to know

that I stand with you in your frustration with these people and

support your efforts to get your story told and let the world know

that implants can be very devastating!

How are you doing, Shari? Are you feeling any improvements in any

areas? Everything happens at a snails pace it seems, but you should

be seeing some improvements over time and I will keep praying for

that for you.

Patty

It really does put things in perspective!

There are things that are just plain foolish....

And preoccupation with " self " is one of them. It is my prayer that

our world learns to reach out to all those that are hurting, in

whatever small ways we can, and try to get away from this pervasive

and insidious obsession with our bodies!

Isn't that so frustrating? I find it very hard to take when people

lie and twist the truth. Especially for something important and you

know they are lying but can't do anything about it. Did any of you

happen to catch the show the other night on alternative healing and

supplements, etc? I only saw about 10 minutes of it so I don't

remember the station. It was something like 60 Minutes or that type

of show. Anyway, they were essentially bashing alternative medicine

while pretending to offer a balanced view. They were saying there

are no good studies proving that vitamins, minerals, supplements and

things like accupuncture, etc are of any value. Recently there has

been a number of articles saying that vitamin E is bad for you and

so are other vitamins. I am sure all of this is backed by the drug

companies who think they are about to score a huge coup with the

upcoming codex. It upset me so much I couldnt watch it. I am

trying to support the group fighting codex but I am scared to death

they will take away all our rights to buy vitamins, minerals,

supplements, herbs and other healing substances. It outrages me

when they try to make it sound like so many people are being hurt by

alternative medicine and that we are so stupid that we shouldn't be

able to buy the simplest substance without a doctor's prescription.

Think of how many people are hurt or killed by prescriptions every

year! How about all the new warnings on vioxx, etc. Certainly many

more people have been hurt by conventional medicine and drugs. I

urge everyone to go to websites for codex and support the people

trying to make sure that the united states doesn't agree to it. I

think about how much the only things that have helped me since I got

sick were things I could buy on my own. I do not want to lose the

right to buy olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, etc, as they have

made such a difference to my well being.

I intend to write the radio station about their so called contest.

Thanks for giving us the info shari. By the way, how are you doing

lately? I hope this year really is a good one for you.

Glad to hear that you are seeing improvements with the hand

pain and numbness! I am sorry to hear that you are still having bad

headaches and depression. So am I! Still in that box where as I

try to detox I get awful headaches. ANd depression. Boy are they

related!! Anything that I try to detox or kill off something makes

terrrible depression and fatigue. I fight with it daily. Of

course, in my case, I feel alot of it has to be menopausal

symptoms. Still, I am ready to move past this garbage already!! I

had a nice christmas but let me diet go badly and am probably paying

for it now with all that sugar I ate. I was stressed and stupidly

gave myself permission to indulge!! so I have been trying hard the

last few days to make up for it. I took a milk thistle yesterday as

well as oil of oregano, and thus the headache last night and today!

One thing that I think that does help with pain is olive/lemon

drink. Have you tried it? Three times a day, mix a tbsp of organic

olive oil with the juice of a whole lemon. If you can't stand the

taste, mix in some organic maple syrup. It really seems to help

me. I have read about this on more than one website. It is worth a

try. Hang in there and I am praying for you!

Hey Kathy,

Don't be hard on yourself over the holidays! I think we all deserve

to celebrate now and then. Sugar is bad, for sure, but I don't

think we have to live in ways that deprive us of the ability to

celebrate and enjoy life. Anyway, now it is the new year, and you

can get back on track!

Kathy, I agree with PAtty, you have done an excellent job, sometimes, its good to just let things go a little and not think about everything we put in our mouths. its the holidays! I ate poorly too, but then I ate really good and drank lots of water to make up for it! Loveyou, julie

-Thanks patty. I am doing better now but still making myself hot

cocoa with marshmallows! Well, cutting down is better than doing

nothing! I am really encouraged by this product called naticor that

I am taking. It seems to be having a good effect, but too soon to

say as I usually get a good effect followed by herxing and then

backing off. So far so good.

Patty

I bought the naticor from appleadayandbeyond.com. They have the

best prices on Garden of Life and free shipping. They recently

started carrying these products called Generation. I have 2 of them

and like them alot. Naticor has nattokinase and serrapatase. These

help break down fibrin which can build up in the arteries, the

muscles, and all organs and tissues. I also have Zymitol which has

enzymes, alpha lipoic acic and msm. This makes me herx more than

the naticor. I am going real slow ---taking me 1/2 capsule a day.

I recommend these highly at this point.
