Guest guest
Yes. I did. This happened to me with my first brew. I just drank the one scoby that formed in my secondary brew, but I let the second one continue to grow for a scoby hotel. ________________________________ I bottled up much of my KT on the 13th...some of it in left over GT bottles and some in mason drinking jars with lids...the mason jars seem to have a scoby forming in each...which I guess means the lids aren't air tight...has any1 had this happen to them before? Did you just let it form and then rebottle again? Thanx =)

Guest guest
I am wondering now if I am growing a scoby in my Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar. The bottle is half full and has been sitting like that for about 4 weeks and when I used it yesterday, something plopped out of it. I scooped it up and put it back into the jug of vinegar and I am hoping it is a scoby and will continue to form. I will check in a few weeks. ________________________________ To: original_kombucha Sent: Thu, June 16, 2011 1:08:21 PM Subject: Re: Has any1 had this happen to them b4? Yes. I did. Guest guest
Sounds like a " mother of vinegar " . That is why it is not suggested to use raw cider to seed your KT since you can end up with competing cultures. Guest guest
Hi Lyn, What grows in Vinegar is called Mother of Vinegar and although it looks like a SCOBY it is different. It has the some of the same acid as Kombucha but Kombucha has different yeasts and some other different ingredients as well. You can read on the Internet that they are the same but they are not. Do not mix one with the other. Guest guest
I know not to mix and apple cider vinegar mother with a KT scoby. But my thought was I could make my own apple cider vinegar with that maybe. ________________________________ Hi Lyn, What grows in Vinegar is called Mother of Vinegar and although it looks like a SCOBY it is different. Yes, Lyn, and why not? It's just that I don't know anything about MAKING vinegar yet. I have only used it throughout my life. I've only just entered the world of fermented food with KT and that one has been bumpy since starting out in February. When I saw it, I wondered if that was what made apple cider vinegar. I wondered if it would grow like my KT scoby and I could learn how to make apple cider vinegar with it if it did. I never saw anything like that come out of a vinegar bottle before.
