New to raw dairy group...

Hello all!!!

My name is Jo. I am a registered nurse at one of the local health department's in Eastern Kentucky. Don't let that scare you!!!...LOL!!! I am an avid raw dairy supporter and purchase raw milk and butter from a family in our community. I have been drinking raw milk for 6-8 years now and love it!!! I have no 'miracle' story to tell about raw milk, only that I am passionate about alternative health, 'proper' nutrition, and all that's truly natural. However, I do have a story to tell about my raw milk 'crusade'. I had been drinking raw goats milk which I purchased from a lady in the Mennonite Community. Unfortunately, she got wind that it is illegal to sell raw milk in Kentucky. I offered to write up a 'herd share' contract or suggested selling the raw milk as pet food, but under no circumstances would she sell me anymore raw milk after she heard this. So, basically for a year or so I just stayed away from milk as much as I could...then something spectacular happened and I heard that there was nother lady in the Mennonite Community that was milking cows and selling the milk. By that time I had became an employ of the health department and discovered a co-worker here that was also very interested in raw milk and health. Anyway, we started purchasing raw cow's milk from this lady and her family, but not 6 months after we starting getting milk she informed us that they were going to have to slaughter one of their cows (they only have 2) and would have a very limited milk supply. I was completely distraught!!! So, I talked it over with my friend at work and I contacted another lady who was getting milk from these people as well. We were all in agreement that we had to do something, so I began my mission...to find a Jersey cow to buy for these people. That's just what we did. After several weeks of searching we found a 4 year old Jersey that was due to calve in April of 2009, just 2 months away. The cow was in great condition, still young, and would be ready to milk very soon!!! The 3 of us gave $400 each and purchased the cow. The Mennonites were very grateful and we've been getting milk ever since. Now, that's one way of getting raw milk here in Kentucky, but what are the chances of getting someone to milk it and take care of it for you??? ;)

I recently joined the WAPF membership and am hoping to start a local chapter in my area. I would really like to promote CSA, raw dairy by herd shares and educate our area about real nutrition. All I need is a few encouraging folks in my county to stand behind me.

It's great to be in a group with other like-minded raw dairy lovers and exchange stories, questions, and comments something you are passionate about.

I'm truly looking forward to getting to know everyone!!! :)
