Guest guest
Have any of the experienced brewers on here found a great source of mineral rich sugar at a good price? I have used two that I found locally, but have not found one that I am happy with yet, not even the one bag I got at a health food store. (I really don't have confidence in any of the products I have gotten from that hf store so far. It is a chain store, and I just don't think the standards are there.) There is a second hf store that I have not thought to look in yet, so I can check there. There is also a third one that I have to find. These two seem independent. But maybe I can get some ideas from folks on the list.
Guest guest
Hi Lyn and EveryOne, I have used Certified Organic Free Trade Evaporated Cane Juice (sugar) from Wholesome foods for years. Always works well and makes great KT. Tried lots of other types of sugars, maple syrup, honey etc. but like the way this one comes out the best. Guest guest
Bev, do you get this in bulk somewhere? I think I found this or something like it locally, but it was in a small box that held maybe 2 cups. I'd run into quite an expense buying so many little boxes. This is kind of what I had in mind. Anyone who might know a bulk supplier of a mineral-rich sugar. ________________________________ Hi Lyn and EveryOne, I have used Certified Organic Free Trade Evaporated Cane Juice (sugar) from Wholesome foods for years. Guest guest
I get the same organic, free trade, evaporated cane juice sugar, but I buy it in bulk from Costco. Its the one with the green bag right? I started buying it at Whole Foods and then started buying it Costco later. -Ernie in New Mexcio > > Have any of the experienced brewers on here found a great source of mineral rich sugar at a good price? Guest guest
I just learned that there's a costco in a town an hour away or so. I have not ventured that far yet in my new area. So I will keep that in mind. I want to go there anyway, so now I have two reasons. ________________________________ To: original_kombucha Sent: Thu, June 2, 2011 5:00:24 PM Subject: Re: Sugar fpr KT I get the same organic, free trade, evaporated cane juice sugar, but I buy it in bulk from Costco. Guest guest
Hi Lyn, Yes, I buy it in 25 pound bags at my local health food store. They order it for me. Wholesome Certified Organic, Fair Trade, evaporated cane juice, sugar, light. It is granulated like sugar and blonde in color. Guest guest
I am looking into these ideas. I just visited a hfs that I had not been to yet and she had a good buy on organic pure cane sugar for $1.48/lb. It's in the green bag. She also gets a bucket of another kind of organic sugar that she would charge $1.48/lb for and I will take this bag when it gets empty and fill it with that. I also have a bucket that held 5 lb of coconut oil that I will take along to fill when I do that. ________________________________ Hi Lyn, Yes, I buy it in 25 pound bags at my local health food store.
