Guest guest
Hello Brewing Buddies, I got my original scoby from a friend who had ordered hers through the mail and successfully propogated. I have had good success with her lovely gift, and in spite of neglect this past year, have revived it for lovely Kombucha once again. My neighbor heard about kombucha and was determined to brew from scratch in spite of my generous offer, at the time returning to the earth many large healthy scobys. This was the first I heard that you could cultivate a scoby without a mother, and for the fun of it decided I would try, in part to ensure that I had healthy tea since I had abused my original scoby and children. I have a beautiful, healthy scoby and brew from High Country on the first try, which produced a new baby scoby in 10 days! I have since attempted with GT's three times, all without success and with mold. I have a third brand, 'bucha, that is as yet undetermined but has the look of my pre-mold GT's more than a healthy scoby. I am still holding out hope for that one, as I *could* be wrong about the look of it. That brand did not have an unflavored strain, so I chose Verbena Rose flavor and my biggest regret if it doesn't produce a scoby is that I didn't save some for a good taste test first :-) Just thought I'd share my good success with High Country brand... I'm now well into brewing my first full (1gal) batch from that scoby, which is reproducing beautifully. So three cheers for the viability of High Country! Loving my kombucha! beth
