Kombucha is a living community elixir of organic microbials- ever evolving and relaying coherent information to your bodily equilibrium. melatonin is unwarranted to be in the same breath as kombucha in terms of functionality and potency. our bodies produce their own melatonin, whereas it does not produce any inner kombucha to my awareness. the restorative idea is not to see just how many hours we can keep ourselves sedated in sleep, yet the reality of resting oneself comes in more than the singular form of sleep. try sipping some brew before|after meditating outdoors? caffeine inside of a whole plant's leaves is not something to be feared or create trepidations for anyone. this is pseudo-science at it again- puppeting our concerns and focus. if one brews{no boiling of water} by cold-steeping and/or soaking looser-leaf plants at room temperatures in purest water they can access overnight, any amount of caffeine that transfers into the infusions|teas will still be in an organic form! gently infused yerba mate will not have any isolated|drug form caffeine as in commercial " soft drinks " or pharmaceuticals. let us not confound mother nature with our regressive devolution of academia and whatever sources that let us surrender to the mass stupefying of our minds. if we are serious about brewing, we will feed the scoby as if it were our child in infancy. give it the best ingredients|environment|love that you possibly can, yes? isolated sucrose{granulated extracted sugars}- i have repeatedly addressed in this forum and no one seems to want to even acknowledge it for feeding to a scoby? this produces alcohol every time it is introduced to a brew. no isolated sugars, no alcohol produced period! why are we so resistant to evolve in progressive ways? a scoby with mold forming on them aught to never happen unless, otherwise sabotage occurred. this should be unheard of in practice in this forum especially when we can be elevating each other constantly. dash our egos, pride and silly little idiosyncratic 'preferences'. we are not here to agree|disagree with ourselves but to learn, grow and evolve brewing wisdom for All i cannot please everyone within eyesight of these words, so i make no apology in advance. i think we all can get over ourselves and simply pick and choose what works for us and what does not. i am not knocking against anyone. overall, why not create and stop following recipes of the cemented ideas of those cadavers decomposing in their graves? are we not more intelligent than previously? initiative & innovation, ~Rezz ________________________________ To: original_kombucha Sent: Fri, April 1, 2011 3:10:35 PM Subject: Re: Caffeine and Kombucha I am not sure what else it can be. When I drink it, I am up early in the AM and when I don't I sleep till it is time to get up. I have tried melatonin and it doesn't seem to do anything. I have since started using a combination of the decaf green and black/orange pekoe at a ratio of 4 green to 3 black for a gallon. If there is any caffeine left after the brewing I can't tell it. in Texas > > I am pretty sensative to caffeine especially in tea. > I have tried dipping my tea bags in hot water for about 30-40 seconds to get rid of the caffeine but it is not enough. I am waking up at 2,3,or 4 in the morning and I am not sleeping well. Does anyone have any ideas or does anyone use any tea brand that tends to not have a great deal of caffeine? I am using Lipton and I think it has a lot of caffeine in it.
