I agree I do not know why everyone is ignoring this issue. It affects our children. We have been fighting for these children to get services via insurance, for what. It will all go away with this HealthCare Reform Plan.

AutismSpeaks is also playing politics! They are saying on their website that this is a great plan! Because an amendment has been added “behavioral treatmentâ€. Well Autism is neurological! This HC will pay to drug our children, not treat them! There is no mention for medical treatment. Also, if they even cared about our children they would not NEED an amendment. I am not personally ignoring it but am not going to get hysterical about it, either. We sent out the link to the actual bill last week. You need to read it for yourself and interpret it accordingly. Stop listening to the propaganda - on either political side - and decide for yourself. The next time you get an e-mail citing certain pages and sections, go there yourself and see if you interpret it the same way, or if it is even a direct quote.

Change is difficult, and there are many problems with the bill, but the current system is not working. I am very tired of paying payroll deductions for insurance that does not cover ONE SINGLE THING for my son's autism - not speech, not ABA, not supplements, or special diets, not even DAN! doctors. My husband and I make too much money to qualify for anything but I can't afford to quit my job. Will this reform put an end to that? Probably not but it might provide me more choices for the future, as well as force private insurance to regulate their coverage. I have spent considerable time scanning the document and have not seen anything that scares me yet. Granted it is over 1000 pages and full of "legaleze" but it is easily scannable through Adobe Acrobat. (Adobe Reader is free

Obviously you haven't seen hospital ER filled to the gills with illegal folks getting free care while your insurance coverage is scrutinized. Doctors & nurses are already scarce what will happen when the flood gates open with the FREE sign?

I have seen people get denied county help when they lost their jobs recently but yet the illegal folks got medical care PLUS free medicine.

Some of you may not have witnessed the huge influx of Canadian doctors run across the border to practice in the US but it did happen for a fact.

I'm hispanic -- my ancestors got here legally, learned to read & write in English and PAID taxes and their own medical expenses.

Where will the buck stop? We owe trillions and there is no way the gov't will be able to afford all that we ask for. WAKE UP

If you think you're gonna get ABA, DAN etc....you're totally wrong! Costs are being cut, medical care & testing will be rationed. If you haven't heard, medicare, medicaid and social security--all of which are government run programs ---they are going bust.

We now have too many illegal children impacting our school districts--free healthcare will bring in more people than ever before.

Obviously you haven't seen hospital ER filled to the gills with illegal folks getting free care while your insurance coverage is scrutinized. Doctors & nurses are already scarce what will happen when the flood gates open with the FREE sign?

I have seen people get denied county help when they lost their jobs recently but yet the illegal folks got medical care PLUS free medicine.

Some of you may not have witnessed the huge influx of Canadian doctors run across the border to practice in the US but it did happen for a fact.

I'm hispanic -- my ancestors got here legally, learned to read & write in English and PAID taxes and their own medical expenses.

Where will the buck stop? We owe trillions and there is no way the gov't will be able to afford all that we ask for. WAKE UP

If you think you're gonna get ABA, DAN etc....you're totally wrong! Costs are being cut, medical care & testing will be rationed. If you haven't heard, medicare, medicaid and social security--all of which are government run programs ---they are going bust.

We now have too many illegal children impacting our school districts--free healthcare will bring in more people than ever before.

I'm currently in the process of reading the 1018 page house bill and so far it does not look good. Rapid change within the first 2-5 years after the act is implemented and mostly likely progressively making it a basic healthcare package over the next 10 years. I do agree on the immigration issue in relation not only to healthcare and education but all as aspects of our society. It's killing us financially. My family are immigrants and went through the process to become citizens I think if you want to live here you should do the same and contribute to the cost of services.

I believe this bill, if passed, will affect our children. So far, I see nothing that will benefit them directly. But I see lots of potential for harm. I have so many issues with the proposed healthcare reform that I'm not even sure where to start, but here goes.

-To begin with, the bill does allow the government access to my bank accounts. None of their business. No, not directly related to my child, but another example of government intrusion in my life.

-Since when is healthcare the government's job? That IS socialism, and so far, we are not a socialist country, though we're certainly headed that way.

-Life becomes marginalized. I don't want a "committee" deciding when and how my parents should leave this earth (pp.425 & 429). That's God's call, and last time I checked, God is not residing on Capitol Hill. My Father is a 10+-year survivor of lymphoma. According to this plan, Dad would likely be told to come up with his "end-of-life" plan. My son, born with heart defects, would not have survived the wait that will likely happen on this plan. GOD decides our time on earth, not some government monopoly that debases human life. How will they view our children? As contributors to society, or drains on society? Look at the language in the bill. It is geared toward keeping the healthy....healthy.

-The costs that I will be paying for medical care for illegals, as stated below.

-Every year, I receive an email letting me know at what point of the year I am no longer working for the government ("the day of the calendar year when the average American worker has earned enough gross income to pay off his or her share of the spending and regulatory burdens imposed by government on the federal, state, and local levels."). This year? Yesterday!! Had TARP not been pushed by the Pres and Congress, the date would have been five July 25. That's 224 days working for the cost of government. Add the cost of the healthcare "reform", and we'll never get out from under the debt that our current government just keeps piling on. Ultimately, we pay!! I can't afford it. -"As part of his pitch, the President also tried to compare his health care overhaul to the competition between FedEx and the U.S. Post Office. He said, "If you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? No, they are. It's the Post Office that's always having problems." It's a false comparison for several reasons, but mainly because the U.S. Postal System is heavily regulated and, as a result, it's weighed down by federal mandates--just as the President's health plan would place burdensome new regulations on private insurance companies. That's why his statement is so revealing about why a government takeover of health care is not the solution. The American people are outraged because they don't want health care delivered with the empathy of the IRS, the efficiency of FEMA or the mismanagement of the Post Office. The Post Office lost $ 2.8 billion last year while giving a $ 135,000 "performance bonus" to its top executive. And because the USPS is federally run and funded monopoly, it is unaccountable for its perpetual fiscal mess--just like Medicare. That's not the kind of change the American people are hoping for." -The Senate bill's official summary also authorizes "home visits" to "improve immunization coverage." (http://www.eagleforum.org/column/2009/july09/09-07-31.html) That leaves way too much wiggle room regarding immunization, which currently, is still my call.

-Does anyone (other than CPA's) understand the tax code? No? I sure don't. Every year, new pages are added that make it impossible for the average layman to understand. The health bill is already over 1000 pages. Think about ten years from now. If we're not already bankrupt, how many thousands of pages will be added to this already confusing document?

Those are my most serious issues. Yes, our healthcare system needs help, but this isn't it. I'm self-employed and pay for my own insurance. It's a plan that leaves me with a large deductible, and big premiums. Having a child with heart defects, I have serious payments every year, but I still choose it over letting the government decide his (and our) health futures. That's not their job. Yes, we need reform, but not a government hijacking of healthcare.

Sorry this is so long, but this issue is too important to ignore, and it will affect everyone on this list.

Very well said on all topics. The bureaucracy of government never cuts true costs or improves services. The USPS should have downsized years ago when business decreased, instead they keep raising postage to cover the increasing costs as others areas do as well.

But at least those of us who can't afford to send a package via Fed Ex still have the option of using the post office.

This is just a plan for those who don't have insurance. Those of us who have insurance through our employers aren't being forced to sign on to this plan.

I think putting a stamp that is less than a dollar on an envelope, putting it in a mailbox, having someone come pick it up, sort it, put it on an airplane, sort it, put it in the appropriate truck and have it delivered to its destination is quite cheap if you ask me.

Put the same letter in the smallest Fed Ex envelope, and it is going to cost you a minimum of $10.00.

I'll keep the post office's inefficiencies for that kind of deal.
