Guest guest
You can not use the dollars alloted for attendant care for other things, but you can request that some of those hours be reduced and then used for specialized therapies. However, I would caution you against doing that as once those hours have been reduced, it is difficult to get them added back in. Your best bet is to go the CDS route. That is where you find and hire your own attendants. It is still difficult to find them, but at least you are a little more in control. I have found attendants through Care.com. Your CLASS agency still does all of the paperwork including writing the paychecks. Your OT/PT/speech should all come through Medicaid and NOT through CLASS. Find a Medicaid provider there that offers those services and call them. They will handle all of the paperwork. (Here in DFW we use Therapy 2000.) You can also try Easter Seals. CLASS can provide massage therapy, aquatic therapy, music therapy, hippotherapy, etc. Those are considered specialized therapies. It does sound to me like you need to change agencies. <<My son has been on the CLASS program for over a year. We have had a hard time finding an aid for him. We have had 5 different people and due to one reason or other they do not last. It takes so long to find an aid that my son goes several weeks with out anyone and I usually take him out on weekends and during the week. My question to the group is that we added up his total hours and it came out to 4 months of total hours that a paid person was actually here with him. We understand that the state allotted him 43,000 dollars and we just were not told we could ask for more services. We are in San area and the resources are here. I think we are just told the basics. He still to this day has not had OT or PT. WE always have to wait days before his program coordinator calls us back and then we won't here anything about our requests for months. What and who handles the funds coming form CLASS to our son? Do we have the right to see on paper how his funds or being disbursed and if any foul play is involved. What agency do I contact. We have lived in several states and came back to Texas when his name came up on the list after waiting 10 years and now after a year I am confused. I would appreciate any feedback from the parents that have been in this situation. Thanks,Pablo and Lillian 's parents >>
