Guest guest
With the sudden introduction of health insurance into my life, I've recently undergone a battery of tests: eye exam, physical, blood work, etc. Haven't had them done in yeeaaaars. Here are my general results: Male, Age 28. Everything normal to excellent. Vision 20/15. Resting Heart Rate is 56. BP 122/80. Cholestrerol excellent (Tot.= 140's, HDL ~55, LDL ~80, Triglycerides 61), liver counts fine, etc. My BUN was 16. However, my serum creatinine level was 1.6mg/dl; this was flagged as high. Doc is very concerned and wants a 24hr creatinine clearance done. I'm certain that elevated serum levels of creatinine can be caused by extrinsic factors, and is not necessarily an indication of something pathological... but I guess this determination is what the clearance test if for. Anyway, here are some things which are, perhaps, relevant: *I do not take creatine as a supplement. It is possible I had some GNC post-workout something-or-other with 5g of creatine in it, but that would have been at least 2 to 3 days before my blood sample was drawn. I've read daily supplementation with creatine can throw serum creatinine to over 2.0mg/dl as the phosphate breaksdown into creatinine. But I imagine in 2 or 3 days I would've uriniated it out, yes? *I recently returned to some heavy training after a long layoff. Perhaps four weeks now. At present I am about 30+ lbs lighter than my heaviest training weight three to four years ago. I haven't gotten into calculating LBM changes and all that, but it's fair to say visually noticeable changes are occuring rapidly, with an appreciable difference in my physique occurring even over the last 2 weeks. I'm guessing muscle memory and all that. *I maintain a diet relatively high in protein. *I don't know if it's relevant but my father has had two kidney stones in his life; I know this increases my risk for them. *** I'm not too concerned, and will be doing the c-clearance this weekend. But I'm thinking the recent reintroduction of heavy training and LBM changes are the cause of the elevation... particularly considering my BUN score was normal (16 in an acceptable range of 5 to 25). Does anybody have experiences or knowledge they can relate? Cheers, Ambruzs Red Bank, NJ
