Guest guest
greetings & All, 1. i do not hot steep any herbs, i suggest using an abundance of herbal volume as in nature, a forest will yield a lot more than a little 3 gram satchel of dried tea leaves |i suggest 1/2 a kilo of loose-leaf herb to one gallon of water 2. cold-steeping in the fridge or a iced cooler overnight is usually how i brew, sometimes a couple night in the fridge 3. i have not covered the glass jar steeping vessel normally, this depends on what else is kept in the fridge though.. 4. i have even thought about goji berries also, just more scarce|pricey than dried grapes, have yet to brew with them the process i suggest is to produce a therapeutic grade (i just choose not to label it medicinal for ideological reasons of reinforcing the insinuation of mainstream allopathic medicine having central efficacy in application of principles) for healing, vigor, vitality and (w)holistic health. nature provides fruits and herbs in massive quantities, yet we are given a tiny pinch [around 2-4 grams] inside of bleached pouches for making infusions. i suggest using at least 10 times an amount offered to us by corporations attempting to set the standards for us. mother nature~ has already set the true standard: Abundance! the key is to extract a significant amount of light(meaning embodied sunlight within the leaves of the herb) from these dried plant parts. we must first be conscious as to the natural functioning of leaves on trees! a leaf absorbs and repackages direct & indirect sunlight {bio-photons} in order to transport down the branches, trunk and roots of a tree simultaneously while water, minerals, microbes and other nutrients are being harnessed up into & through the roots of the tree. water, specifically, is drawn up all the way through the branched network of the trees, eventually going all the way to the tips of leaves, fruits, flowers, etc. then that water is circulated back down toward the roots repeatedly. it basically works the same with any living tree, specific rates of functionality may vary though between tree species. *with this said, what we are doing is imitating what naturally occurs already before any human involvement occurs {which is nearly always the case with anything we do relating to 'technology'} sunlight + moving waters= electricity always! sipping kombucha is literally drinking an aqueous battery really... the microbes catalyzes this process just a fungi do by creating mushrooms in/on the fallen tree branches in a forest: then the ants feed them you see , it always goes back to mother nature first! she is the first and apex of all technologies we humans simply derive and claim as our prideful invention. by the way, invention literally means finding a way into...as in the sense of figuring out merely an opening into energy transference but not fully innerstanding the HOW and even more the why something happens as it does. this is why we call teas INFUSIONS because we are re-infusing living waters into the crystallized sunlight{chlorophyll, tannins, pigments, phytonutrients, hues} that the leaves have packaged so efficiently. so, i suggest soaking | cold-steeping the cut & sifted loose leaves until the infusion is so dark that seeing through the glass vessel in not possible when held up to direct artificial lighting. color is key consciousness !! then, i suggest using the Coconut Secret brand raw coconut nectar liberally. you will not need to use more than one 12 oz. bottle for a 2 ~ 2.5 gallon brew batch though. remember, coconut is another fruit tree, and this nectar comes from the top center trunk of the tree rather than from its fruit. so again, think about what we are actually doing here ? why a coconut tree...well there are oodles of reasons! an example is that a coconut tree is one of the most efficient and strongest trees on the planet relative to its size-to-strength ratios in comparisons with other trees in the world! just think about a hurricane toppling a man-made house of brick and mortar, concrete even, while the coconut palm trees are still standing & withstanding over 100mph constant wind speeds!! when has anyone seen a palm tree just tumbling across the ground during a hurricane completely uprooted? in Puerto Rico one year, a wood board blew right through the air into a palm tree in a hurricane and became lodged right into the trunk of the tree piercing all the way out the other side of the tree trunk...and the tree remained standing, rooted & grounded!! so, i am ever humble.. Brew like no one's Watching! ~Rezz Yisrael ________________________________ To: original_kombucha Sent: Sun, May 8, 2011 9:24:22 AM Subject: RE: Sweet Solutions Thanks for the suggestions Rezz. I would like to try cold steeping and maybe you could share a bit more about your process…. such as: 1) Do you use the same amount of tea as with hot steeping? 2) Do you cold steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator? 3) Do you cover your steeping vessel? 4) Have you ever used Gogi berries instead of raisins? Unfortunately much more expensive, but just curious. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I like the more natural approach that you advocate and am anxious to move further down that path.
