Guest guest
I personally have French Alpines.I love the breed.Tried my hands at Nubians and just didn't care for the temperament. Definitely more uptight than the Alpines.I bought my girls from a dairy so they are used to milking.Great butter fat content on my girls. And tasty milk.Vickiwww.afterthoughtfarm.com breed of milk cow/goat/sheep I am wonering what kind of dairy cow/goat/sheep you all have and why you chose that particular breed. Also any pros/cons to your type of milk animal. I am trying to decide what I want to buy and I feel the best people to ask are those who have dairy anumals. You may e-mail me privately if you wish. Guest guest
We have a mix of breeds in both goats and cows. The goats are mainly Alpine with some LaMancha mixed in here and there. For meat we have a few Boer but I'd not get them again as the feet are not a fun thing to deal with in wet weather. We had a few Nubians but the noise was more than I wanted to put up with. When the Alpines yell I know to run, the Nubians just scream to hear themselves talk. Our next buck will be a Fainter, should make life interesting. Our 2 milk cows are Jersey. We've had Holstein crosses and been perfectly happy with them. The Holsteins have given more milk with a lower cream to milk ratio but in the end there was the same amount of cream per day from the Jersey and the Holstein. There is an Angus bull in with the girls right now as well as a young Jersey bull. The meat ladies are a mixed batch from Brahma to Angus with some dairy here and there. I've heard all about Jersey bulls being mean. We're on our third one now and have never had a problem. Some of our bottle steer have chased me across the field when I was dumb enough to carry a bucket! We did have a white breed (can't remember the name) for a bull once, it was crazy. Guest guest
We use nothing but Toggenburgs. I found them to have better milk output for size and be very calm goats. Not the escape issues that we had with other breeds.Jersey cows for cow milk. And one very mean dexter destined for the freezer.See the babies here.http://wildthingorganics.com/goat.html-----Original Message-----From: RawDairy [mailto:RawDairy ]OnBehalf Of Anne M CSent: Thursday, April 17, 2008 12:42 AMTo: RawDairy Subject: breed of milk cow/goat/sheepI am wonering what kind of dairy cow/goat/sheep youall have and why you chose that particular breed. Also any pros/cons to your type of milk animal.I am trying to decide what I want to buy and I feelthe best people to ask are those who have dairyanumals. You may e-mail me privately if you wish.Anne MC________________________________________________________________________Be a better friend, newshound, andknow-it-all with Yahoo!
