Guest guest
Nice link, thanks a lot!!! But still, he insists that he did his 1200+ to at least parallel. There were up to $15,000 in silver dollars, each one weighing 1oz. 15,000oz x 1lb/16oz=937.5lbs. That is the weight of the coins, add the weight of the bar and the safes to get the rest. Joe Roark says never did more than 900 though, I can't remember why he would say that. The bar went through the top of each safe, dramatically lowering the centre of gravity & making the lift easier. In other words, it wasn't a regular barbell 1206lbs. As for the depth, Roark says that it wasn't a problem, especially since the judging in today's contests is not as strict as it was back then so he would have had to have gone deeper. The pictures of the lifts were taken by newspaper photographers who did not know to wait until he was in the bottom position before taking the picture, said that this is the reason for having no pictures of him at the bottom. Guest guest
--- Hi Dmitry! I have seen photos of the late at the bottom of a squat with both heavy and light weights. I also was fortunate enough to see an exhibition Mr. gave where he squatted to parallel 900# for five reps ( easy reps.) This was in the sixties. Due to his huge girths and power squat style he was not able to get much below parallel. I have seen figures of squatting as much as 1250# to parallel. After seeing the exhibition I would suspect that was possible. He was a freak of nature in pre-steroid days. Since he was so much stronger in the squat than his contemporaries I suspect he was not pushed to lift more in that lift. He was unable to lift more than 900# the day I saw him due to lack of available weight plates and power bars. Best wishes! Guest guest
Insanity!!! I wonder what they would have found if he allowed his body to be thoroughly studied? Thanks for the insight! Guest guest
Could those hooks have shortened the ROM, effectively making the DL a partial? Say BC > > > Nice link, thanks a lot!!!
