While looking to see if I had done my self intro... I found a typo and can't

edit so am fixing it the only way I know how, in the subject line of a reply.

In case I didn't do an intro, and to update it if I did...

I'm in Northern California, with hubby & our 15 year old son, and a small herd

of Nubian goats.

I raise the goats for milk, and have sold extras as dairy replacements & herd

sires, pets, meat(not for years though), and pack goats. (the single pack goat

sale was an Alpine)

We drink raw milk (and make Viili Pima, a Finnish cultured milk product like

Kefir only sweeter), and share it with friends, but are not a licensed dairy so

cannot sell it. Our supply is not steady enough to do a share program, although

I would love to. I am told shares are legal here, but am terrified by the

stories of raids. I have nothing to hide, but I can't afford the loss of my

stored food, computer, sanity, etc. My heart breaks for those who have been so

raided.

Our Pediatrician said we had to boil our milk so our baby wouldn't get

salmonella. A friend nearby with a commercial dairy had, at that time, been

tested negative, annually, for salmonella for 25 years. The only time our son

got sick was when he had a free sample of 'natural' formula. Yuck. (His only

diaper rash was with a 'natural' paper diaper.)

We also raise chickens, for eggs. Thank heaven it's legal to sell eggs! I need

to learn to butcher, but am in no rush to do so. Our flock is Salmon Faverolle &

Barnevelder, with some Mottled Java, Silkie, etc. including a new batch of what

we call Frizkins; Frizzled Cochin/Silkie 'unscheduled' mix, adorable! We aslo

have a trio of Light Brahmas for sale... extras from a custom hatch of shipped

eggs for a city coop. I don't see anyone on the list near me, but had to mention

them.

Our extra milk goes to chickens, cheese, soap, and someday whitewash when I find

the slake lime that the recipe requires.

I mostly lurk, and really appreciate the information here.

Thanks all!

Laurie
