Hi

We are going to get my son tested for coeliacs, I have got an

appointment to start the process this week. has been gluten free for

9 years from age 3. He is now 12 and would love to be able to eat ‘normal’

food like birthday cakes, pizza etc. He did previously had the blood test

and it came back positive for coeliacs, but as he had already been gluten free

for over a year at this stage, I am now considering if this result could have

been a true positive. We understand that we will have to introduce gluten

for a free weeks and has agreed to tell us if he feels at all poorly.

I guess it depends on your situation and the age of the child. Being

gluten free has become more of an issue for as he became older and if he could

start to eat a ‘normal’ diet, he would be delighted (especially as

we are going to Italy on holiday next year)!

I think it is an issue you could revisit when your twins are

older.

Subject: Gluten Dilemma

Hi,

My four year old autistic twins had an appointment with a Gastroentorologist

yesterday. He wants to test them for Coeliac disease, which involves giving

them gluten. They started regressing last year and then I came across

information about Gluten and Autism on the internet. Just after 3 days of

taking them off the Gluten we noticed dramatic changes; they are now talking,

they have eye contact, less stimming etc and are in mainstream education.

The thought of putting them back on the gluten for 6 weeks just goes against

my every motherly instinct!!! I know it is important to find out whether or

not they have Coeliac's, but from my understanding of the condition, the way

to control it is by excluding gluten from one's diet (and we are doing that

already). The Gastro refused to do allergy tests and says he will only do

them as a 'whole package' with the Coeliac's test. I would really appreciate

some thoughts especially from anyone living with Coeliac's or anyone else

with some ideas/information. I am so terrified of my babies regressing again

and losing all these amazing gains they have made the last 12 months.
