Hi,

My name is Tammy and I live in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.

When I was growing up in the midwest, we sometimes got raw milk from a farmer

with a lovely, gentle little Jersey cow. Even as I child, I fell in love and

dreamed of owning Jerseys some day. Almost four years ago, approaching

mid-life, I met and married my farmer husband. He is a third generation dairy

farmer who is no longer in the dairy business but now runs a beef herd, raises

cash crops (hay, oats, etc.), and grows and sells produce. When I told my

husband of my childhood desire to own a Jersey cow, he helped me purchase two

lovely girls. (Having worked for some time on a small, family owned dairy farm

in Alaska, I was not completely unfamiliar with dairy cattle.) My little herd

of two has now grown to five cows and a first calf heifer. I also have an

assortment of calves. To round out our farm we have a breeding pair of Corgis

and a breeding pair of Dachshunds and about 50 hens that are completely free

range. (I lock them up at night to keep the away from predators, but they have

the run of the farm during the day.)

I am addicted to my lovely cows and with each beautiful, big eyed baby comes an

abundance of rich, creamy Jersey milk. I make cheese and other milk products

from all the milk and I have a small cow share program. Since my family and I

have been consuming raw milk we have had very minor and very few health issues

and believe strongly in the benefits of drinking raw milk.

Raw milk is not legal in the state of Virginia, but cow shares are allowed.

I found out about this site when someone on another forum (Keeping a Family

Cow)suggested the site for information and support for those of us who consume

raw milk.

I am looking forward to getting to know other raw milk drinkers on this site!
