What the heck are you talking about? You don't have that long??? You

better shape up or I'll be knocking on your door with a Red Wing jersey

in my hand.I hope you were kidding.By the way, I love the nicknames you

have come up with for them.I hope your team does beat them some time

soon,I think their heads are a little too big.I used to decorate with

baloons and Joe Arena was one of our big jobs, so I've met alot

of the players and coaches over the years.Very few were worth

meeting, but they can skate.I actually miss the throwing of the Octopi

onto the rink!

In a way I'm kidding...but in reality I will be happy to see 50, and I'm

37 now. I just have " that " feeling, and trust me...I don't like it either. I

hope I'm wrong though, as I would like to be around to teach my

grandchildren how to fish, and how to DESPISE the " Yings " !!!!

The way my life has done a " 180 " in the last 4 1/4 years certainly

doesn't indicate too much good, and if my back keeps getting worse as it has

been over the last 3 years I have no doubt I'll wind up in a chair. I'm

doing just about everything the Dr's want me to do but to date not much of

it is helping. I even decided to say " F " it when it comes to beer, as I was

told to not have any since I got sick. I was never, ever a heavy drinker

(hell a case would last me a month in the summer and 6 months in the winter)

but have since decided that if 1 or 2 beers a week kill me, than at least I

can die with a smile on my face. My Dr's are split on this, with my RD

insisting NO brews, while my PCP & Liver Specialist don't see any harm in

the occasional brew. I don't drink Liquor.

My Sacriatic joint pain has become so damn horrible that it takes me an

hour on most days just to be able to stand up & walk, and they are now

causing pain down my legs (right knee especially) that is brutal in itself.

OK..I'll stop wallowing in pity here....I do hope I'm wrong...but time

will tell. Besides...I'm worth quite a chunk of change the other way!

LOL...just kidding.

PS if you came to my door with a " Ted Ming's " Jersey, my oldest would love

you and I'd have no choice but to dis-own him. That little ... has become

quite good with a computer (He's learning how to build websites at the ripe

old age of 9!) that when the Av's & Wings were playing he would change my

homepage and screen saver to the RED WINGS!!!! If I could catch him (he runs

2 miles at a clip 3-4 nights per week, and than does 6-8 100 yard sprints

and 5 sets of bleachers) I would have sunk a foot where a Fathers' foot

usually winds up in their Son at some point in time....... I swear he is me

times 2....a die-hard, stubborn, smart ball breaker.

I can't complain about that though...my kids are great and the one thing

that makes me ant to stick around as long as possible.

Howdy Marty......I haven't considered 50 old ever, to my knowledge! I

watch my Father-in-Law (73) go non stop year round....as a matter of fact he

still works 2 jobs (not that they are broke..but that is the only way he can

smoke & " Get Away " with it. Shiiiit!! One would figure that once you hit

your 70's one should be allowed to do whatever they damn well please but

alas.....the wives' still have us by the short hairs long after those hairs

turn grey! I also worked with my father (soon to be 58) for all of my adult

life and would be impressed to see someone half his age keep up with him. He

is starting to slow down now....but I know that has more to do with the two

of us no longer working side by side than it does with age as he hasn't been

the same since I became unable to work. He wasn't just my Father, he is also

one of my best friends!

So for all of you who thought that I was picking on your wrinkled

butts......HAH! I wasn't.....I'm just pretty sure the ages I mentioned above

won't be witnessed by me...although I sure as hell hope I'm wrong.

Well I certainly appreciate the offer Elly, but alas I am not in the

resort. I am however a total mess, but I will update that tomorrow or when I

get to it. My Ferratin level was 754????? along with a bunch of other skewed

numbers. Now my Pred. is jacked through the roof and many different parts of

my body are severely bloated.

I was able to go to the camp (albeit a bit late) and enjoyed being there,

even though I am not able to do too much. It was great just to see a lot of

the kids & parents again.

Kirk.

PS he had a good reason to have me go down there as he was concerned about

potential fluid around the heart/lungs. He had me get almost 20 X-Rays and

they drew 12 vials of blood. I'll find out more news as it becomes

available, but hope I don't hear from him anytime soon! He had to get me in

today as he will be out of town for the next 3 weeks! I really and truly am

very happy I found this guy, as he really knows how to treat a patient with

no bullshit that some other Dr's seem to enjoy doing.

Later, Kirk.

Last item...I want to slam my head off of a wall repeatedly until I knock

myself out. I only slept 2.5 hours last night (nervous as hell) and added an

hour when I got home (wicked ride home with double vision most of the

way....how the hell I made it I don't understand!) and now I can't *******

sleep due to my headache deciding to crank up the volume again!!!

I need a bottle of Vodka!

  • 4 months later...

Howdy .....wow..is this going to take a lot of emails as I've

forgotten as much as I remember most likely. First off, my headaches are

weird....in that I am NEVER sensitive to light, sound, smell etc...., and I

do mean NEVER. In fact, one thing that sometimes actually helps a little bit

is incredibly LOUD hard rock/heavy metal, and when I say LOUD, I mean the

kind of loud that rattles your neighbors' pictures off of their walls!

(Thank GOD I had the foresight to buy my monster stereo BEFORE I got

married!!!...too bad I hardly ever am in the mood to listen to it

anymore)......

The only things that really are effective for me are high doses of

steroids (which I can no longer tolerate as I have Osteoporosis in my spine)

and Dilaudid. Morphine and all of the other pain killers they have ever

tried via IV made it worse, if anything. I have been on every class of

Migraine med, anti-depression/phsychotic med and almost anything else that

may help Migraines or headaches. I had ZERO success with them all.

I finally got an answer to what I'm dealing with from Dr. Wm. Young @ The

Jefferson Headache Center, Philadelphia, Pa....I have what is termed " New

Daily Persistent Headache " . That is the good news. the bad news is that they

know very little about them and nothing that they tried work on mine. I'm

sort of " stuck " with the present limits of science/medical technology.

I STRONGLY advise getting an appointment with a Neurologist or preferably

a headache specialist. I don't know where you live, but if you are within a

couple of hours of Philly, Dr. Young and his staff are worth the trip. Worse

case scenario is to contact his staff and see if they can recommend anyone

in your area.

Until then, get to a pain management Dr and make him work with you until

they find something that at least HELPS A LITTLE!!!! For me, I get to take

many of my headaches from intolerable to barely tolerable with

80mg/Oxycontin, 10 mg Valium & a lot of ICE on my head. The weird part for

me is that my headaches are different than most as mine feel as if someone

is ramming my eyes out of my skull from behind. I also get pain above the

eyes, and sometimes in the areas of my Temples. I've had dozens of MRIs,

MRAs, CT scans, EEC etc..... and all show nothing.

I know a lot of people say ice makes their headaches worse, and that is

one area where I am way different as heat on my head makes mine worse.

Supposedly headaches are caused by constricting of the blood vessels, which

ice would make worse....well that isn't the case with me. I actually have 2

of those " Blue Balloons " frozen at all times as I may need ice on my head

for 8-12 hours at a time. I'd figure they have to weigh 4-5 pounds each.

Let me know if I can be of anymore help. I am an expert at suffering from

these M******F*******s, but wish I was an expert at solving them as they

literally have ruined a long portion of my life!

Email me privately @ kbonanny@... if you so desire. I will answer

as best I can and help you in anyway I possibly can. Just be patient, as I'm

not always online due to the way I've been feeling.

Hope you feel better, Kirk.

PS...If this gives you any useful information here it is...even when my

headaches aren't horrendous, I usually have at least a slight one. What I

consider " normal " anymore are the type I used to get every once in a while

that I would take a couple of aspirin for.......I almost always have one at

that level or higher. I Rarely have more than 2-3 days per month with NO

headache, and even that is rare. Most months I am lucky to have 1 day where

I am headache free. I've considered many Dr's opinions of the possibility of

rebound headaches...so on 4 separate occasions I went a minimum of 6 weeks

without ANY narcotics to see if that was indeed the case and no, it

isn't...and how I made it through those " experiments " was by sheer

willpower, as I suffered greatly for no damn good reason.

One thing I can forewarn you about is to be prepared to be treated like a

drug seeker by some, a hypocondriac by others and a bullshitter by others

still. Very few will refuse to believe you are suffering as bad as you say

you are if they themselves can't come up with an answer. It is no more than

a cop-out on their part, and a good indication that you need to move on to

another Dr. Luckily for me I had the same PCP's for well over 25 years and

they knew I never complained about anything. They were the difference maker

for me, in getting past a few of the ones who insisted I must be

exaggerating or something as such.

Do your research! Ask others from your area. Best of luck, Kirk.

Angelia, I have something called Pseudotumour Cerebri... it's basically a

situation where your spinal/cerebral fluid doesn't drain properly or is

created too quickly, and the excess presses on your brain, causing

headaches. Thankfully, getting a spinal tap seems to cure me for a while

(last bout was 5 years ago, and it didn't trouble me again until this past

summer), although it's different with everyone.

You might want to mention it to your doctor, or better yet, see your eye

doctor, as it just takes a quick check for pressure to rule it out. It was

actually my eye doctor who caught the problem, after my family doctor spent

about a year telling me it was all in my head... pardon the pun. ;)

Oh Kirk,it does sound like a trip to the resort may be best.I know you want to

wait until after the super bowl,(congrats by the way) but when that time

comes, don't put it off any longer.I'm glad you wrote about dilaudid,I couldn't

remember what they give me at the resort, but that's it.Thanks.Here's hoping you

Thanks for the well wishes Elly! I know I should be there (resort) now

after coming off of the 52/53 day headache and waking up @ 3:00 AM yesterday

morningwith my entire body feeling " HURT " and my head POUNDING...which it

still is horrendous. I can barely see anything since yesterday as I'm

" beyond " double vision since then also.

I didn't coach yesterday, handing my credentials to one of my friends who

is also an assistant coach (only 4 of the coach's get on-field creds) as I

knew I couldn't do it and also thinking ahead that if I go down or worse

he'll know how to run the same defensive plays I run and understand my

playbook. Thank GOD I only coach the front 5, as my partner coach (Steve)

runs the linebackers, corners & safeties. Rob is also like me in that he

won't play favorites and will take his own kid off of the field without

hesitating, just as ZI would with Chris. The other IDIOT that " HELPS " will

do nothing other than put his own kid in the best possible situation so that

his stats look good. After the game was in hand yesterday (we were up 24-6

after the better part of 3 quarters, he let Mr. Idiot have a crack at it and

the fool moved from Nose, switched my Def Tackles and kept blitzing

the right outer line backer so his kid could get into the backfield

easily......he almost cost us the game as they wound up scoring 2 quick TD's

before Andy (Head coach) or myself noticed what was happening. I almost got

into it with this asshole a few times over the years and if I felt any

better yesterday would've. I spent the day in a chair helping hurt kids the

best I could as I just can't function.

I know I'm gambling a little here, but hell, this is one of the few

remaing things that I can (usually)still do...so they'll have to drag me

there...until AFTER the season is over (and GOD willing) will be in 2 weeks.

Technically it won't be " over " as there is a charity bowl at the end of each

season to benefit an area sick kid or kids but I won't lose much sleep if I

can't coach that one.

Well, thius email has just taken me 45 minutes, and I hope you can

decipher it as I see two separate screens! Now if they only lined up with

each other!

Adios, thanks & keeo in touch. Kirk.

I'm going back to F******* bed, pissed to no end as I'm out of ICE!!!!! I

really hate myt life attimes like these!

Kirk darling:

I'm a bit behind the times, I'm sorry. I haven't been on the

computer much in the past couple of days due to head and back pain

and work among other things. Of course, I'm no where near as bad off

as you and I admire how you continue going even though it's probably

NOT the best move on your part.

Oddly enough, one of my front end supervisors threw his back out but

he refuses to stay home and rest because he knows I work even when

I'm in pain. The odd part is I work in pain knowing YOU coach that

way and I admire you for that and many more things.

Now I'm going to go into Mother mode and tell you to go rest. I

understand about being out of ice so send someone to get it for you,

that's what kids are for. Have you eaten? Perhaps you should be

eating things that are gentle on your system; things that are bland,

no milk products, no spices. A cool compress (as if you've NEVER

thought of these things) on the back of your neck and on your wrists.

Take care and be well darling. Keep in touch only when you're up for

it.
