Guest guest
While we are talking about "taboo side issues", has it occurred to anyone that they may be using the raw milk issue to draw our attention away from the NAIS issue, so that they can bury it in the farm bill, and get it passed, and then it will be too late to do anything about it. And then where will we all be? By then it won't matter, as they will use it to put all of us small producers out of business, so that big ag can take over, and then there will no longer be the issue of our right to choose what we eat and drink. They will take that option away from everyone. We won't even be able to keep a back yard cow or goat for our own family's personal use. Deb Ferrell Re: TABOO SIDE ISSUE ?????? Don writes:> Could raw dairy also be a freedom of religion issue? Raw milk is a less controversial issue than animal sacrifice, but whenthe Santerians in Florida wanted to cut the throats of chickens andgoats for their rituals, the Supreme Court said it was ok in thelandmark case: "CHURCH OF LUKUMI BABALU AYE v. CITY OF HIALEAH, 508U.S. 520 (1993)":http://www.oyez.org/cases/1990-1999/1992/1992_91_948/ (summary)http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=US & vol=508 & invol=520What helped was to widen the scope of the issue to the general issueof freedom of practicing one's religion, to draw other religions intothe issue. Then it was discovered that trying to outlaw the religionof Santeria by the backdoor route of outlawing its practice of animalsacrifice would have done the same thing to Judaism and Islam byoutlawing the Kosher and Halal rituals they use when they kill animalsfor food. Oops! The standards for banning the religious sacrament of preparing food ina healthy way would be much higher than the standards for banning a business competitor from the marketplace. So you might want to go on down to the government website and downloadthe application for a 501©(3) for a charity or non-profitorganization (just like all the other religions do):http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=96109,00.html(since in the great ole USA it is the Internal Revenue Service whichseems to decide whether you are a valid religion or not...)And get a little help filling it out from:http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/rbs/ezec/Toolbox/501c3factsheet.htmlhttp://www.form1023help.com/Note that if you are doing it as a religion or charity, you don't paytaxes, but you can still pay yourself a reasonable wage as an employee.I'd recommend treating it as a religious issue rather than a localordinances issue.Tom No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG.
